Buying a 190E 2.3 16 - Need Some Help :)

Hey guys,

I just came across an 87 190E 2.3 16V. I haven't seen the car as of yet. Will be going to check it out 1st thing tomorrow morning or whenever the seller has time.

Thing is, I don't know much about them, and I have a couple of very important questions.
1. Are the parts more expensive for the 16V's? Since its a cosworth engine and all. Also cheaper vs more expensive than a W124.

2. Fuel economy - I am still a student at the end of the day and gas prices are on the rise.

Seller says, the car has been sitting for over a year and the fuel pump needs replacing as the engine isn't getting any gas but it turns over. Its got a few surface rust spots that I am willing to not concern myself with. It needs a new rear flex disc and front brakes. Cars got 250,000 kms on it.

Should I even look into it or skip it?

Guess it all demands on the price. if it needs more work than its worth, i suggest you keep looking.

Just make sure that the timing chain didn't snap or something because it will be better for you to buy a new engine than to repair that

if fuel pump isn't running try to knock it gently from down with a backside of screwdriver or something. Don't bend it or use excesive force or use 2A 12V DC transformer and remove back seat and try to directly jump start pump (It worked for me that way)

Parts are not more expensive than for other MBs because they share a lot of same parts. Only Engine Head and specific parts are quite expensive

Economy is similar like other 190E's maybe a 10% less but isn't big deal

So in other words, that car is not going to drill a hole through my wallet.

I'll go take a look at it.

Thank you appreciate it

Any thing else I should look at while at it?

The

rust will eat that thing alive and is not a cheap fix.
Offer $1500 that's all it is worth in that condition even in Canada.

Without it running how are you going to tell if it has a bum engine?
Offer $1000

^ Hahaha....Some people said he should be paying me to get it off his hands.

But yeah, Im not offering him anything. Im not willing to take that sort of a risk.

Hopefully something else will come by soon.

Thank though
