53MPG 190D 2.5
So I was shopping through eBay and looking at 190D's and this guy claims 53MPG. Anyways what I was going to ask is it possible to put in a VIN number of a Benz into their site and they'll tell you the original configuration. This is what the guy who's selling the car below claims in the questions section of his eBay ad. If it's true can someone explain to me how?

It is quite possible the car gets 53mpg. My 2.2 190D gets over 40 hwy and a turbo on a diesel actually INCREASES fuel economy. As well, the additional few horsepower and different gearing could quite easily bump that motor up to 53mpg hwy

How did that thing fetch $3000?
I sold my 300CD which was in excellent shape on ebay for $1200. I should've painted it funny colors and add some cheesy body kit to it...

coasting with the engine off
Evan, you are comparing your 4 cylinder engine to a five cylinder engine. There is no way a 2.5D could get better mileage than the four cylinder, turbo or not, (unless the 2.5D was being towed with it's engine off).
My lowly humble opinion as always.
