New hood ornament does not fit

Hi, I'm new here hoping someone could help me with my problem.
I purchased another hood ornament (1992 190e) to replace my broken one, and the mechanic said that it would not fit, saying it was bigger than my old one. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I'm positive the part is for my model.

Did you try putting it on yourself?

Have a picture?

Is it the correct one for the car. It could be the new style one for the S and FL E.
