92 190E Sportline.. worth it ?

I recently went to meet someone who was selling their 2.6 92 190E Sportline, right off the bat i have to say that the overall presentation of the car was unbelievable! the exterior was incredibly clean compared to most that i have seen, there was however a little ding on the side that would cost me no more than 150$ to fix..and the interior.. all i have to say is that i was breathless! the leather was in absolutely perfect condition with no cracks or discoloration, it was like it came out of the Benz dealership. Now comes the bad part, we took it out for a little testdrive and noticed a few things... it is an automatic transmission, and when it shifted from 2-3rd there was a semi-loud "TOK" noise.. now this in no way sounded normal and i have a very good feeling that it was transmission or diff related. Now the other thing was that when i floored it, it didn't seem to pick up much power, it started to around 3-4000 rpm but it seemed to have a weak start. Now these seemed to be the only issues...

The guy has claimed to of recently changed the Head gasket, timing chain, tensioner, water pump & alternator. He is also giving me the original rims with new winter tires on them... the car currently has 315,000 km on it and he lives in a rural area with long clean paved roads. He is asking 3,500$ for it and it is negotiable.

Keep in mind that he has also offered to let me take the car to any garage of my choice for a full inspection.

Now who hear thinks that this would be worth it ? and what kind of problems could i be getting myself into if i were to buy it?? (price range ?)

I have attached a picture of the car.

It would be worth it because now you can diagnose the trans/diff noise and see if it is worth it to you to buy or not. But other than the 16v, didn't all variants of the 190 seeem "weak" when you compare it to modern day cars?

I don't know about the diff, but my parents bought a rebuilt trans from the dealer 6 years ago for $3k or so. Might be cheaper at a non-dealer. You could always buy a used trans or diff, but the problem is that you don't know it's history.
