I don't think you can really purchase one off the lot.

smart is making people go through a reservation process where you put down a $99 deposit and then wait for a few months before you can configure the car. After you finally configure it, then it's about another 3 months until your car's delivery.

The people that are getting the cars now paid their reservation in March 2007 and configured their car September 2007. So it's been about a 10 month wait to get one.

I'm not sure when they will start selling the cars off the lot, but right now it seems like that may be a while since there are so many reservations for them to fill.
