If someone came out and said that Earth was experiencing a "global warming" 20 years ago, everyone would laugh at their face. And now all of a sudden its a scientific fact?

The really cool thing about using the scientific method is that it adapts very well as you put in new information. In science, it's okay to be wrong because in itself, being wrong is still good data.
But sorry I'm going on a tangent, the point I'm trying to make is we don't know enough to make an informed conclusion, and I specifically point to the fact that Earth is only 1 sample size. I think it's only recently that we witnessed another planet with a magnetic field actually reverse its' polarity.
Since we don't know enough to solidly explain and predict what's next, I think it makes a lot more sense to "tread lightly"
