On a CLK55 300-cell metal core cats made 10HP & 12TQ on the dyno (so roughly 12HP/15TQ at crank).
They make a very significant difference for a such a simple basic mod, and more importantly they really work well with headers, therefore if you plan to do headers down the road, then doing high flow 2nd cats is highly recommended. Primaries are fine and do not need to be changed or replaced and they almost never go bad.
