Previously, the maintenance scopes alternated between the minor basic service (Service A) and the major basic service (Service B). These services have now been classified as the technically essential Required Package and a supplemental Recommended Package. Required Package A reduced basic package has been defined for the Required Package for price-conscious customers. This basic package omits some service items which previously formed part of the Basic Service.

Recommended Package A Recommended Package has also been developed to allow those customers for whom convenience and service is important to continue to have these service items performed by Mercedes-Benz Service. The service advisor must offer this package to the customer during a consultation because it is no longer included in the conventional maintenance scopes. The aim of this consultation is to identify the most suitable package for the customer.

The first digit indicates whether the service is a minor or a major basic service: A = Service A = Minor basic service, B = Service B = Major basic service. The second digit indicates that additional operations are due: Number or letter.

Thumbs up More Confusion by owning an M-B

Assume both the Recommended and Required Services would be included in the 3 year pre-paid maintenance contracts?
As of three months ago, my dealer charged $200+ for A and $450+ for B services. Does this mean he will probably charge less for the Required A & B?
thanks for the info-really appreciate this service you provide-wish the dealer did.

Any real difference?

Finally got around to comparing attachments to my maintenance manual. Does not appear they have really moved a lot to the Recommended and in fact may have added some things?
Wonder if there will be any real difference in cost?
Do they really replace windshield wiper blades every 10,000 miles?

My benz dealer in Lake Bluff Illinois the service A is $254.00 includes a full oil change.

HOWEVER they offer a full oil change for $89.00 plus tax AND they do a FREE multi-point check. This FREE multi-point check covers EVERYTHING under the service A except to reset the dash for that they want an additional $165.00 THIEVES .

The directions attached are VERY easy to follow and do . I have done it and it works on a 2011 E350 W212.

Have contacted 2 nearby MB dealers re.above. They have no idea what I am talking about "major or minor" and "recommended or basic" services. Is there anything on this directly from MB that I can show to them?

Here is your service sheet – 10000 & 20000 mile service alternate, 10000 considered minor + additional work (based on time/mileage elapsed), 20000 major (i.e.: additional fuel filter, brake fluid, dust filet, etc.) + additional work.

Does anyone have a copy of the service bulletin about fading burl wood trim? I have a 2011 Mercedes E350 luxury edition, build date 2/11 and it only has 9000 miles on it. Wood on door panels looks OK but center console turning real pale, washed out. Any help would be appreciated. My email is gcpaer@earthlink.net Thanks!

Not doubting your observations, but are you sure it's fading? I just got my first MB (e550 4matic). There is a definite difference in the wood trim around the car. It's not unattractive. I like woodworking as a hobby. Different woods take stain differently. Burled walnut is actually wood that is "damaged", for lack of a better word, by stress or illness. It's very valued by wood workers due to it's increased knotting and grain features. These features will create a natural variation in color.

Another thought is the finishing coat (I have no idea if it's a plastic or some type of epoxy) could be what's changing.

Wood was faded and Mercedes verified it and replaced all the wood in the car under warrantee.

Threre was a TSB out, particularly effected 2010 models. My dealer verified it and inspected my car, but it is garaged 85% of time so no fading. He had seen it though on other cars.
Apparently, the sub-contractor injected the "plastic into the wood rather than coating it per MB instructions.

Hi, I am looking for the service manual for w212 from 2010 to 2011 era. Does anyone have a copy? Particularly on servicing the rear brakes and equipment required for the nuts removal. Thanks.
