Going to have to disagree with you here. The only reason the GTS feels sportier is when equipped with coil springs and stick shift....however so few in the US are specced this way.
The Turbo S with pasm is easily the pick of the range if you can afford it. Easily sporty enough and far faster then the GTS.
If it's handling you're after and you're buying used then it's hard to beat the iS edition X5s. Our bought new 4.6 has been flawless in over 70,000 miles and you could buy the 4.8 version up until 2006 if you wanted something more recent...it's equally good.
