Agreed, an AWD especially a turbo allows the torque to build rather than all at once allowing less shock load to the drive train. Turbo's have much smoother power delivery which doesn't overwhelm the tires.

BUT, there are some techniques that will even the playing field.
First, switch off the ESP, leave in D, do not power brake and roll off at 1400 rpm feeding in more and more throttle progressively. It's sooo hard not to nail it. You have to concentrate and practice about a dozen times.
Trust me, if you get it right it will be a fun race.

We ran a number of races at Willow on the front straight (no street racing)
I've pulled every BS and 6.3 by at least 3- car lengths using this technique. I've lost to a a 700 hp 997tt (tip) and it was 1/2 a car off the line and he motored me top end by about 3 bus lengths. Nevertheless, I think the driver can make up a bunch. If the GT-R only pulls you a half car, you'll run him down. If he goes nuttso and jumps you 2 cars.. well it's over.
Scientific minds want to know.
