Cool 2000 c280 rough idle/shut off problem

Hey guys,
I bought a used 2000 c280 with 165km.. when I bought it the car idled a bit rough but the acceleration was great.. in Drive the rpms are around 500 and in Park or Neutral they're around 6-700.. don't know if that's normal.. anyway a month later I was at a stop light when I felt it idle a bit more roughly than usual.. it felt like the rpms went lower and all of a sudden the engine shut off.. I started it again and it started alright and didn't give me trouble.. This happened twice again and only when the car was stopped.. I went to a MB dealership and the foreman said it sounded like one of the sensors from what I told him but a diagnosis was needed.. I'm a student so I just carried on driving.. hoping the car wouldn't shut off at stop lights.. then on my way home from work one day the car shut off while I was driving at around 60 km/h... everything shut off the power steering stopped working and I had to stop at the side of the road but I started it again and drove it home without a problem and then that same night it shut off while I was driving at around 20km/h .. I started it again and brought it home.. that was a week ago and it hasn't shut off again .. thank God but it still idles rough.. any ideas what it could be.. because MB is charging me 250 just to diagnose the problem.. Thanks!

It could be a number of things. Depending on how accurate your description really is, I might start looking at the crankshaft position sensor. Here is a recent interesting thread on this:
