Transmission jerk

My gf's mother has a 2000 C230 at 90K miles. It runs pretty good but the only problem is when it is cold, the shift from 1st to 2nd gear is very rough, the whole car jerks when it shifts. It will be gone after it warms up. My qestision is whether it is normal for w202 with this mileage? Can a transmission fluid flush solve it? Thank you.

Yes, to some extent this is normal. The car computer holds the shifts until it warms up in order to get the car warmed up faster. You also have to remember that with this car the supercharger clutch engages full time for the first two minutes or so in order to lower emissions. That means you have maximum boost/torque available at lower than normal engine speeds. Now you have to add in other factors due to age and mileage that can amplify the problem. Your flex discs may be getting worn (adding slop and pop to shifts - definitely something to check out), your engine and tranny mounts may be showing age and compression and it may be time to change the tranny and rear diff fluid.

When did you last service the transmission?

It probably needs a flush and filter change. Just remember to use the MB special fluid and filter/gasket set.

I don't think it was done before. I thought it was lifetime, or no need to change untill 100k miles.

I do mine every year just to be sure regardless of the mileage. Cause I'm pretty sure I don't go 60K or 100K a year.

30k miles or every 3rd service, whichever is later.
