2nd Serpentine Belt Replacement
2002 C320
The first serpentine belt was replaced at 53K, now at 93K the belt needs to be replaced again. Is this unusual? What could cause this to happen? My independent garage has been honest and reliable to date, no reason to suspect they would rip me on this small $ item. Any input is appreciated. At least I was able to get 93K from the original front brakes. Thanks! |

I had my serpentine belt replaced at 45,000 km (28,000 miles). It was changed when it was still under warranty. There were small cracks and slight fraying on parts of the belt. Car now has about 78,000 km (48,000 miles), that was about 4 years ago. So far the belt looks fine.

Strange - the Poly V belt usually goes forever - Maybe a few bad ones around - it happens with rubber/synthetic rubber products - More of a black art than people would have you know - sold process, rubber filler oils to the global industry for many years.

Check to see if your crank pulley is OK. There was a TSB that identified certain ones that the rubber cracked and the whole assembly came apart. I have almost 150K miles on my belt and it looks great...no cracks, no wear on the sides, no stretching, no slipping.
