Yea I have been looking at the Powerchip myself, they have an option that you can buy a flash cable and flash your ECU without removing & replacing the ECU, no down time. They say if your not happy with the performance you can get your mony back. Does anyone else have experience with powerchip?

I know Kleemann has an option free ECU flash for life. If you take your car to the dealer and they flash it back to original they will reflash it for free only pay shipping.

The Kleemann ECU Flash basically means they change the software on the car. They override it with the Kleemann software which adds more Horsepower and Torque. (They say better gas mileage but I'm not too sure)

The Kleemann KD-Box should be a control unit that you plug instead of overriding the software (flash) BUT It's only used for Diesel. As I recall correctly the price should be no more then 900 (not including shipping). But a lot of people say they didn't feel much gains at first and it took a while.

Edit
If it's for your C230 you won't be able to use the KD-Box because it was meant for Diesel (CDI or BlueTec)

There is a Kleemann Sponsor here Cory@Kleemann's or Cory@Kleemann. Contact him for deals.

Edit 2
Here is what they offer for your car C230 K

http://www.kleemann.dk/Performance/Engines/R4M271.aspx#

If you are going to dump all this money (which isn't cheap) you are better off going with a C32 or C55 (I don't know your financial situation) but if you are after speed and power then modding the 230 wouldn't be the wise decision. Instead go with the AMG w203s (32 or 55).

How much can you get a C32 these days 15? 16?

Here is one guy selling one that supposedly he has extended warranty till 2018 or 178,000 miles. If this is true then You won't have to worry about a car for a while.
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

Here is one very low miles (43,000) extended warranty till 2012 or 93,000 miles.
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

If I knew about these cars (c32) before I got my C350 I would have chosen the C32

My C350 out the door 21,750 - 268HP Warranty till November 09
C32 price is 17,000 maybe tax and license max 18,000 out the door - 349HP Warranty till 2018

You tell me which is the best deal.

Good Luck

Damm, the amg is hella good deal. i was looking at the kbb value for my car and it was 11k...obviously for trading it in though. so that means i could have atleast gotten 7k in cash. that's half the price already. lol

too late. my car just ran out of warranty so i just ordered the kleeman headers from cory (i emailed him about the ecu and pulley too but no response yet)

u guys know of any cheap mods that do make my car (m271 engine) sound nicer and even better faster?

aprreciate it!

To the OP - Remember you have a C200 & not an American tune C230 version of the M271.

Engine maps that work on the C230 will not work on the C200

The cheapest mod to make a car sound nicer is removing the resonator and maybe the secondary cat (65 bucks). But if you want to spend money (1,000) then you can get an exhaust (Eisenmann, Remus). You can get cheaper ones (price wise) Magna Flow.

You are on the right track with the headers, ECU and pulley. I think that should push your car close to 220 - 230?
Anyone know?

Good Luck

Use the TMV. Personally I don't like KBB. Or you can use a combination of both.
http://www.edmunds.com/tmv/index.html

Same options

For my car. Maybe I should sell it and try to get an C32 or C55

Kbb = $24,260
TMV = $24,686

I can only speak from experience with Powerchip on my ECU re-flash for my M271 engine. It gave me the modest performance increase that I expected, with no loss in gas mileage, and the Powerchip folks provided me with excellent customer service, including phone instructions on removal of the ECU when the paper instructions did not make sense.

I know some forum members have other prefercences when it comes to chip tuners, and Powerchip is not cheap (probably does pay for their extra overhead and collateral materials) compared to others, but it was worth the money in my opinion and I knew what to expect based on my ECU re-flashes for my other cars. They do have a good tuning track record with these cars. Not like pushing the boost to 20psi, or adding a AMG motor, but it did produce a notable increase in mid range and passing power on the hiway.

Good to know

I agree that powerchip does make it very easy on the customer. For example with Kleemann you have to ship them your ECU.

I'm surprised how Powerchip risks exposing their software out to the public.

If they provide you with the hardware and software isn't it easy to copy the software?

We'll I guess same goes with Kleemann if they flash your ECU can't anyone extract the ECU software and save a copy and pirate it?

I know with Evos (Mitsubishi) they have free open source ECU mods out.

I talked to Cory a few weeks ago about the Kleeman Pulley kit. He told me they don't offer it in North America anymore, because they cant sell it for cheaper than $2100, which basically means there is no market for it...

They should put it on sale for $650 like the headers i bet there would be a market for that Cory???

All tuners pricing will range, but after researching all that could flash an M271 motor I found pricing from $350-500 plus approx $60-80 for two way overnight shipping.

Each person should select the company that will best meet their needs, but I would suggest you use a tuner that A- Has previous experience with flashing this particular ECU for the M271 (not all have this qualfication even though they market themselves as being able to do so), B- Gives you tuning options if you have other engine modifications such as header, airbox, etc, so you get the best bang for your buck and don't get stuck with a stock tuning package for a modified motor. Some also offer different tuning options based on octane ratings, so make sure to ask what their octane requirements are based on their posted power claims, as that can make a difference.

Research this forum using the great search engine to find other information, but based on comments I have seen posted, I don't think you can go wrong with either Powerchip or Kleeman, both have experience with MB and both are great companies. Good luck.
