That is not so. The 5W-40 meets 229.51 for diesel engines with Cat & particulate filters. Benz put out a global bulletin late last year that no product could be claimed to meet both 229.5 (Ash level 0.8 to 1.6) and 229.51 (ash level<0.8) - read the Definitive oil thread.

Mobil 1 5W-40 does not meet 229.5 - It fails high temperature high shear - HTHS. And has the wrong additive concentration. 		To remove this ad, register today or login if you already are registered!

Mobil 1 0W-40 Euro Car Formula that does meet 229.5 specs is READILY available. Even Wal-Mart carries it here. There is no excuse, IMO.
