anyone know what this piece of wiring is for?
....it hangs off the CLA lead in the ashtray:
the two leads are brown and blue/gray, which is the same as the ones that go to the lighter, but they're smaller gauge. There's a MB part number on the side: 030 545 28 28. Also a Tyco #: 1-969521-1
I'm curious what option it might be for, and whether it's a potential power source. Thanks.

if you have a multimeter, why don't you check the voltage on those wires (with ignition ON and with ignition OFF).

lol, I stumbled upon the parts search in the EPC. I was clueless for a few months.
Hit F11 when your in the EPC and the parts search will come up. Make sure the tab "part without vehicle data" is selected. Type in the part and press enter. All the applications for that part should come up.

The wires are too fat for a microphone, and the 203 mic is in the headliner. The mic wires are shielded. The brown wire is almost always Nr. 31 and connected to the vehicle ground. The blue wire might be connected to the interior lighting circuit. Being in the center console it migh be for illumination of the PRNDL indicator on automatic cars, or the lighting on the phone setup. Connect a volt meter and turn on the lights. Adjust the dimmer knob on the instrument cluster. If the voltage goes up and down, you know how it is used.
There is usually a tag near the connector on the harness that has the circuit reference number. Usually a letter followed by 1 to three digits. With that number, it can be looked up on the wiring diagram and pinpoint its use.

I never have any luck with EPC, something about my Java, though I know of no other sites with issues. Odd that EPC would list it as a mic connection, don't ya think? I installed MHI/UHI for Bluetooth, and it seems my car already had/has a mic. Whatever it is, it seems unlikely that it will power a 12v receptacle, right?

Take a Voltmeter/multimeter and measure the voltage across those two wires (with ignition ON and then ignition OFF).

thats not what the plug for the cig lighter looks like and i'm quite sure his car has one in his ashtray anyway...plus i had mine apart the other day and I did not notice that plug under my ashtray whatsoever...my cig lighter wasn't working and i got tired of plugging my phone into the receptacle behind me...

Sorry not to be clearer about the fact that it's from my 209; I actually posted here in 203 on purpose, cuz I've found a lot of really knowledgeable members here (ironic that it would be Wes from 209 to find the part in EPC!)
Wes, can you look up the "microphone 2-pin MQS;X58/3" in EPC?
No tag on the harness, though I have seen them on the fiber optics when I did my Bluetooth. Like I said, I assumed they were power because they're the same colors as the two wires that do go to the lighter.
