2009 Mercedes Benz C300 vs. 2009 Audi A4 article

Hey guys,

So now we start to consider Audi's. Why not, they're starting to show up in greater numbers. The possible good: perhaps Mercedes will go back to being a luxury car driven by some and not so many. The possible bad: man these Audi's are cool, maybe even better than Mercedes. What do you think about Audi's? It's hard to argue that they aren't quality vehicles, but how do they compare with what many consider the benchmark of luxury: Mercedes Benz?

Audi makes great cars. The 2.0 turbo may only make 211hp, but the tuning potential is great. That is the best part of owning a VAG. The aftermarket companies are always ready to go with the release of the new vehicles.

I have an 08 C300 and an 09 A4 in the driveway and despite all the advantages the Audi sports on paper, I would take the C any day over the A4. Despite the amazing torque and sleeker styling, the Audi leaves me a bit cold. The Merc, with all its shortcomings does feel more solid, connected and buttoned down. If we are going to Home Depot, take the Audi, if we are heading up to the mountains, we definitely take the Merc.

My new car search came down to the final 2 - 09 A4 3.2 and 09 C350 4M.

I picked the C - best combination of features, feel, driveability and style.

But those LED DRL's sure are cool...

We've always had Audis in my family in the past.
I had a 2000 1.8t A4, my brother had a 2002 1.8t A4 and my dad had a 2003 A6. Really great cars..... until one day you start noticing little failures, and thats when it all starts. It is like cancer, the car starts braking down little by little. The first problem I had was a lost pixel line on the cluster display of my 2000 A4, before long, the whole instrument cluster was malfunctioning, crazy speed and revo meter, etc. Then the turbo blew, and the car was completly stock, my brother's 2002 A4 turbo also had to be replaced. The BOTH rear electric windows system broke. My dad's A6 tranny was replace as well, among other things. The list goes on and on. And in Dominican Republic they only gave 1 year warrany, so this was all comming out of our pockets.

I know that perhaps Audi has change a lot from 2003, but I'm never going back. I had an Infiniti FX45 previous to my C, and I would go back to Infiniti, or try a Lexus, before buying an other Audi. My dad, however, got a 2007 Audi A6 (cause he is really good friends with the owner of the dealer in DR) and the car has been great so far.

My girlfriends old 2001 A4 was pretty well falling apart as well. She traded to keep from having to drop another 3-4 K worth of repairs into it. The only reason she had the confidence to try another Audi was a dealership here in Atlanta that offers a 10year/100K warranty through Audi USA. To its credit, it has been flawless for a couple months...

Nailed it. I just wish the W204 had a more performance oriented aftermarket instead of retailers that mainly sell mickey mouse add-ons.

+1
Borla is already working on a catback system for both the 3.2 and 2.0 2009 A4s. They expect them to be ready in a month, maybe two. I guess the demographics of the A4 owners lend a bit more to the modding crowd.

New 09 C300 W204 owner..former B7 A4 2.0TQ owner

Gotta say that Audi has def stepped it up and the lineup is incredible... I love my A4 and im def gonna miss it....but when it comes down to it, I think that with MB you get more for your money. However, im a tuning enthusiast and the potential for tuning on the A4 is endless, especially with a turbo AWD motor. I saw a few people asking about the ECU reflash, does anyone know where i can get it done and how much it runs as well as the dyno on it?

RIP 06 Audi A4 2.0TQ, s-line, titanium pkge
Mods:
APR stage 1 reflash
carbonio intake
AWE exhaust
AWE Omori boost gauge
Zimmerman rotors
H&R sport springs

On order:
C300 w204: steel grey/black, P2 pkge with Ipod kit

I have been a long time Audi/VW owner and fan, and my C changed my thinking of MB, which I didn't care much for until I saw the new W204 for the first time at a dealership where I was looking at a BMW 3-series coupe (they sell both MB and BMWs).

Audi make awesome cars, well designed and engineered. The only things that prevented me from getting an Audi over the MB are: 1) There are too many A4's and A6's on the road; 2) while the interior is beautifully detailed with rich materials, the overall design is rather bland; and 3) the MB has better resale values compared to Audi.
After getting my w204, I really appreciated the prestige of owning a MB -- perception and presence on the streets, and excellent dealership customer service.

The w204 along with the 2010 E-class shows that MB is really a stong competitor to BMW and Audi on many levels. Though I didn't like the new E at first, it is really growing on me and I'm really starting to like it. One annoyance are those handlebar-moustache-shaped LED daytime running lights below the bumper -- why can't MB make it a simple straight line of LEDs?

I was stuck between the Audi A4 2.0L, BMW 328xi and the C350 4MATIC, and I ended up putting money down on an 09 C350 4MATIC last Friday. It was a tough choice, all three had their pros and cons, but I felt the overall package of the C350 was the best of the bunch!

I think the C is still the nicest/classiest looking small luxo on the market. Especially once you throw on some 19s. BMW is off course right now. Hopefully they clean up their designs soon cause I really liked my 325Ci. I didn't consider Audi at all. Kinda soft. A chick car I think.
