Hey Guy's

FYI

Yesterday i got a Call from the service manager of the MB of cutler bay that he got the approval from the MB field rep to go ahead an change my rear pads.... and the reason for this happening was because I called MB customer service about 10 times complaining about the rear brake dust so all you guy's with 2009 don't give up and keep complaining to MB...

I just brought my C350 in for its Service A and got them replaced. The dealer was very good about it. I have very low miles but was over the year date by two weeks and they still replaced them. Hopefully I'll see a difference - I was cleaning the wheels at least once a week.

I don't know where the year limit comes from. Mine were changed just today and I've had the car since 10/07.

It's the production date that they look at. Mine was made before the cutoff date when they changed pad material.

I also got the torque arm bushings changed. I asked so they did it.

Was there any external evidence of the problem ? ie leaks, discolouration ect. Did they mention that it is a problem with the C Class ? Thank you.

This is a known problem that has been discussed on this forum before. The indication is when backing with the front wheels full left or full right, a one-time "crack" is heard from the front suspension. Here is a quote from my work order:

"Client states when turning full lock right or left, there is a knocking noise in the front end. Excessive travel of torsion hydro bearing. Test drove vehicle and confirmed complaint. Found DTB P-B-33.152B. R&R all bottom engine compartment panels and sway bar. Replaced bearing on both torque struts. Confirmed correction."

A lot of this is standard terminology to insure warranty approval by MBUSA. I doubt that the tech heard anything at all but made the change on my say-so plus it gave him work yesterday. He also changed my rear brake pads under P-B-42.10/100B. Part number 005-420-42-20.

He also installed my new outside mirrors and investigated a rattle in the LF door when the glass is down and ordered a part.

All in all, a good day's work and I am very pleased. The service survey will reflect that.

they don't.
however, there seems to have been a problem with the rear brake pads on the W204s that caused excessive dust, which is not normal, hence the existence of this thread in which you are posting.

Hi RLE,

Could you please tell me what dealership you had your pad changed? and who is your service advisor? I called Larson MB in fife, but they refused to do it under warranty because my car is over 1 year old. Thanks a lot.

Finally, I had it fixed today. The dealership did it under warranty because I called MBUSA. Thanks you guys for the information.

What did you say to mbusa? I'm planning to call them as well. the dealership said my car's production date is supposed to have the revised brake pads. Missed it by couple days. But it is still there, the brake dust problem.

My car's production date was 9/07 and the pads were changed last week per the TSB. With no BS or lies, BTW.

How do I see the production date of my car again? The Service Advisor told me that my the production date of my car was 2 days after the date on the TSB. So I'm not covered. But the pads are still old ones. What was the dates on the TSB? I'm gonna call MBUSA tomorrow.

Thanks

Had the pad replaced last weekend, 3 days after 1 year mark. SA said he would do the pad in good faith since I called MBUSA but would not replace my jumping wipers. You may also want to try a different dealer.

In summary, if I change the rear pads with the p/n: 005-420-42-20. I want not go to dealer, the price is only $51 for the pads and is very easy to replace.

As I said, that's the part number on the shop work order. I would verify before ordering, though.

I just finished the Service A today.
I mentioned that the breaks were squeaking and that i was not impressed with the dust. i believe the squeaking was what got it done. I returned to the dealer and front and rear pads had been changed. I will be washing the car tomorrow and will report back if the squeaking is still an issue. The work order had "replaced pads with updated parts".

Dropped the car off this morning at the stealership. SA was non-chalant even when I showed him the TSB. Then, he called me an hour later and told me that they will replace the pads. We''ll see what happens when I pick it up later...

As we know there, is a TSB on this issue, do not give up! get them to change out the pads if you have a "C Class" with the problem.
I can wash my wheels today in exacly 3 days , I have to re-wash lots of brake dust on the rims, how do I fix this problem.

It has been just over a week and approximately 700 Km. Rear dust is minimal, this is a big improvement over the previous pads. Dust on the from seems less too, but it is probably my imagination..

Yes, we all suffer from the placebo effect sometimes. I actually thought the same thing when I got my rear pads replaced.
