advice on making it smell new again?

Hey everyone!
New to the forums here. Just picked up a 2008 C300 Sport for the wife yesterday (steel grey w/P2 and Nav 10K miles) When we test drove the car, all was good. After we got done with the paperwork and picked up the car, we noticed that the car did have a little musty smell...kinda like a wet rag smell. The smell got better this morning but I want to make it smell new again. Does anyone have any product suggestions that will make the car smell good again?

^ good call, check that link

Other than that, I use Zaino's Z-10 Leather in a Bottle.

Works great for me.

Congrats on the car and welcome to mbworld!

Thanks for the tips. At the dealer now changing the cabin filter. Will keep you posted.

swears by Zaino Z-10 leather in a bottle.... also get new car scent in liquid form and put it in a spray type bottle like this.....

then lightly mist the tops of the back seat carpet and under the floor mats in the front and under front seats. Do not over saturate the carpets, just a light mist and allow to dry before driving. if youre in a hurry shop vac up the moisture and then let dry for about 5 mins.

After you change your cabin filter try "Leather Fragrance". I've been using this product for several years.

You can find it at: http://www.preservation-solutions.com/

They sell all sorts of leather & wood products.

My daughter drives a 2003 (150K mile) Honda with cloth seats and it smells like a brand new 2009 MB w/ full leather.
The down side of the product is that you must wear rubber gloves or you will smell like brand new leather for a day or two. Spray the car once every 3-4 months.

Febreze, you can get it anywhere. Spray on all rugs and enjoy.

Question: Does that Zaino stuff work well on MB-Tex? I actually still have that new car smell in my car after owning for 6 months because I haven't really driven it much (2k miles). Technically, I don't have leather so my new car smell is more of the glues and plastics. I'm just wondering if it is safe to put that stuff on MB-Tex. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Drives: A few cars.
Some detail shops do an ozone treatment. It's supposed to get rid of all odors. My cars always smell new, so I have never had to do it. When I detail cars, my thorough cleaning usually brings the new car smell back.

Yep, it's safe and sound on the mb-tex. "Does a great job on vinyl interiors and dashboards too." (quoted from their website)

I was looking on Zaino's online store and one of the customer testimonials for the product was "Your Leather in a Bottle was just what I needed! I'm tired of slaughtering cattle and squeezing the oil out of their hides just to replicate the leather smell that permeated my car when it was new."

Ordered it, nevertheless.

awesome, good luck with it. dont use too much. and with all leather oil based products you should wear gloves, cause your hands will smell for a week after.

When you use it on your front seats, make sure your seats are cleaned before hand, then turn on your seat heaters and let them get warm. (start at 3 red dashes and let them warm up and go down to 1 dash.) finally apply the leather in a bottle to warm seats so it will soak in and let air dry. works like a charm every time!

Congrats, how much did you pay for it? Hopefully the car comes with CPO, otherwise, do consider getting Mercedes-Benz extended warranty..
I love the new c-class and my only concern is the reliability over long jevity..
BTW, you can get MB extended warranty from any authorized dealer at any time before your original 4yr/50k warranty expires..

Just curious if the products listed above REALLY have that new car smell...or just another poor imitation? I've purchased the little spray scents before titled "New Car Smell" and they didn't really smell anything like a new car.

The other smell I like is the rental car smell. I'm not sure what cleaners they use but those cars often have a "newish" smell to them. Probably not good to be breathing in all those fumes, but a little bit won't hurt right haha.

Great to hear, I'm going to order for mine. Probably apply once the current smell starts going away.

Wow I guess I'll have to give that Zaino a go! Thanks again for all the suggestions.
