Cheers

Dont know at all, but I think that its only the US that have access to whole word entry with streets, districts and towns.

Nuru - where do you set this? Went thru the console settings as well as engineering menus but dont find such an option. I'd prefer that my screen stays up all the time rather than open/close with the key. Thx.

Only way to let the screen stay up is if you flip the emergency release lever, but then you wont be able to control it electrically.

Hm, does your display look like this: http://www.geting.se/viewimage.php?i...6-IMG_2688.JPG ?

In that case you have the Audio 20 or APS 50 system, the screen cover is completely manual on these systems.

Yes, if you retrofit the entire COMAND system

I went back to my dealer again and no go. They keep indicating that they need someone in Germany to approve the change - somewhat frustrating

But what if you call another dealer somewheere in the US, a large one in a major city?
Ask some of these dealers and see if you can get some answers.

Vic, Yeah, I am going to try one more dealer in the area. Then, I will try something else. At some point it will get done.

Aruna, I just read your response to having the 5"display, yep Vic is totally correct (as usual ). Either you retrofit the OEM NAV equipment with the 7" screen, or figure out an aftermarket apparatus to do it for oyu.

Klingon, if I close the screen with the car on, then it might not open up when I I restart the car after turning the car off and it might not close when i turn off the car. However to return it to opening and closing with the car start and car off, I just start the car with the screen closed and then open it while the car is running and then it will open and close with the car start and key removal. I also seem to remember that if I open the screen while the car is off, but I remember to close it while it is off before starting it will open and close with the ignition on and car off/key out sequence.

I have had it open and stay open between car off and on sequences, but I have not done that in a while.

I have seen someone looking into this trying to find the boot picture, but I think its hopeless as I assume that the picture is embedded in the EPROM.

Sorry, I've made a mistake in the last post.
Instead of 17 and 18 contacts in 3 there are 9 and 18 contacts.
And Instead of 16 or 15 in 4 there is 17 contact.

WOW. Great job. This confirms that buying out of eBay's COMAND unit is not a straight-forward swap then? Correct? Many other parts must be obtained.

Correct, as least the cost of maps & the blower already cost half of the unit price that i purchased from ebay. plus the labour cost to SCN code the unit to have the cluster display. I didn't save much if i order it NEW at delivery.

The up side is now I fully understand how the system works and it is a DIY project which is priceless.

No I am afraid I do not know the difference between the two, but if the one you bought wont fit then it must be the other one right?

I have seen pics of Audio20 units using the 7" display and it doesnt look good, the resolutions dont add upp and it looks pretty strange.

Regarding the Comand system w/o navigation I bet that they are using a different HU without the GPS and voice control parts.
