You will probably have the best conditions (Think Safety) on a track. One should become familiar with a late-apex turn for best results. This turn will allow you to enter a corner and exit at a high rate of speed and use less road space in the process.

i made a 90d turn at about 55-60 km and it was pretty firm... there was body roll tho of course... and it felt like the tires just barely couldn't hold on there was slight skid... accelerated a bit and the 4matic helped out... but at least i know what the limit of my car is.
best thing is to just try it... imo. no need to go to a track to try it either... wtf... there is soo much empty road... anyone saying take it to a track for this test are being paranoid or are too stupid to make a proper decision. |

I find this car gets bent out of shape too easily. If you take the corner perfectly it holds its own, but if you aren't precise, it doesn't recover very well. The 4matic makes a huge difference.

There are too many variables to properly answer this question...
...aside from it being a question that cannot be properly answered because much hinges on driver skill. The fact that you asked this questions indicates that you are a novice driver.
Tires, road surface and condition, banking and a zillion other things go into such a calculation. As a rule of thumb you can look at slalom speeds (emergency avoidance)and skidpad results to determine how one car compares to another, but to ask "how fast can I turn" is a useless question that has no answer. |

I actually AutoX'ed and my feeling are a bit mixed. The reasoning for this is that I'm quite spoiled with previous cars in AutoX but I also didn't go into it expecting it will be just as good as my previous cars.
As patrick asked regarding heavy turns, I feel if the car is a bit underpowered at times. Outside the small confines of AutoX and in some closed areas that had some track-like turns, I did expect some oversteer in heavy turns but I did not get any, I actually encountered some understeer causing my post apex to drop inside a bit. The ESP caught it before I drop myself into a fishtail though. If the car had 350hp, it would be VERY VERY VERY nice on the track. Not the C63 axe murderer with headlights but just a great car around the track. What the hell is Mercedes thinking? If they dropped a nicely tuned M272 CGI and bumped it to 350hp....geezESP is better than I thought. To me, I know when it comes on because I definitely feel it, however it's not as bad and intrusive as I would have thought it would be. Countersteering on this car is actually impressive since the ESP kicks in just at the right time. Definitely feels like it was dropping some speed for me just a bit On a side note, the seats suck for AutoX.

Going to a track is not paranoid or stupid. It eliminates the unknown such as other drivers and offers a superior road surface for consistent runs. If you want to hit the open road where there are some good corners then go for it and have fun.

after coming out of a c63 for a day and back into my 300 4m i have to say that i was surprised at how well it could hold its own when compared to the benchmark amg... i would like to add though that if you don't know how the car is going to react before it does you cant anticipate and counter that force - forward thinking/driving is really a big part in being able to consistently push yourself and your machine to it's limits

just find a good spot, and progressively crank up your speed, you will know when to stop going faster

yup.. found a spot and tried it with a couple of friends. 323i (tuned, custom exhaust and lowered), 330 (lowered, well slammed with body kit), c63 (stock), me c300 ( stock). Those 2 bmws took the corner at 80km+ though there was bit of sliding and tire squeel it felt safe? When I sat in their cars through the turn there wasn't much body roll and felt like both the cars were sticking to the ground quite well. The c63, went slower through the corner... at 70km some traction lost but no body roll at all (bucket seats) and felt solid going through the corner. c300 ( my car ) went at 60, massive body roll and during the turn the car felt light and seemed like it was gonna roll over. also my esp light was going crazy. I think 60 would be the ideal speed for me.. until i get new suspensions but it was a hard time to keep up with all 3 of the cars.

the 350 4matic stays firmly planted on the ground lol, even in dyno mode. Tons of grip. Can't say its more fun than a RWD version though, but endless grip comes handy in tricky situations.
