Just picked up my new car two days ago. Looking to do some mods, but need you guys help...

1. my car doesn't come with LED tailights. Can I retrofit LED tailights on it? Is it plug and play?

2. anyone bought the Universal Media Interface? what do you think of it? jpw much do you pay?

3. what is the whitest headlight bulb to use? My car doesnt have bi-xenon. Is PIAA Xtreme White Plus better or Star White better?

have the same question about the headlight bulbs. I understand they won't last as long but at least they will be better than a dim yellow look. Where can I find such bulbs? Any Pep Boys / Autozone? Also, do you just pull it out of the old casing or is it more difficult than that?

I don't want to convert to HID. I just want the whitest halogen bulbs that is closest to HID. No blue hue, pure white.

First, looking at the cars you apparently have, you need to tell us what car you are referring to.

Second, MB doesn't offer LED tailights in the W204 although tail light units with LED turn lights in red or yellow can be purchased and they are plug and play. If you want LED taillights, you will have to buy a BMW, Audi, Porsche, Cadillac or Acura.

As to convex mirrors, the glasses alone can be purchased but the cost is astronomical. I do have a convex left side mirror glass for the new style mirror that I would love to sell for a knockdown price.

Get a grip! Convex mirrors have been around for decades. Not on the driver's side on US market cars.

You're not stupid, you can't know about something that you haven't been exposed to yet!

But if someone mentions them again and you don't know what they are, then, just maybe, will you be stupid...

Ha jk...random philosophical rant

The mirrors are sweet though - every-time I visit my family in Europe it makes me wonder why these things aren't standard on all cars that they produce....Prob just to get us to buy blindspot assist, instead of fitting the car with proper glass....

I am posting on the W204 forum and I said I have just picked up the car a few days ago. I dont think anyone would think I am talking about my SLK. And I know my SLK has LED taillights.

Sorry, I meant to say LED rear turn signal lights. From the research that I have done so far, I am getting mixed info whether the LED turn signals are plug and play. I need to buy the tailight assembly as well because the signal portion is clear on LED equipped cars. Thats what I am trying to figure out.

White non-HIDs are actually less useful than the standard yellow. If you swap them out, be prepared for less usable light and a shorter bulb life.

I had the UMI installed in August :

UMI Screen Pictures

I really like it. The navigation is nice, I love having full control and display of my Ipod on the nav screen, but the best thing is being able to add a bunch of music to a USB thumb drive.

The original quoted price was $1700 for the unit and $400 for the installation.

The dealer matched the online wholesale price of $1350 for the unit and discounted the install $150 ( they had my car for 6 days ! ) for a grand total of $1660 ( they charged me $60 more than the original quote for some reason ).

Any questions, let me know...

Nick

I too had the UMI installed in August. I paid about $2100 for it. We have only one dealer in a 230 mile radius so they don't bargain much!

Overall I'm pleased with it with the exception of the IPOD/IPHONE interface. It has the same volume problem that used to exist on the factory installed interface, that is the volume of your audio system has to be cranked up pretty high. The factory system has a plug and play fix in the form of an amp but that doesn't work with UMI.

So would you recommend Diamond Visions or Crystal Visions.. I've been on the edge for the past couple of months trying to figure out which one would actually match the stock xeon lights more and also the blue-ish eyelids..

I searched the entire city yesterday but couldn't find Philips Crystal Vision nor Diamond Vision. I ended up buying PIAA Xtreme white plus. Got them installed this morning and very pleased with the outcome. Look close enough to my other car with xenon. It is not xenon afterall, so can't complain much.

Thanks for the help guys with regards to the UMI.

Next project will be the rear signal lights. Still can't find the exact answer.

Wheels to follow....

So, it is, indeed, a plug and play?! I won't run into any error messages saying change bulbs or my voltage is not correct etc etc....right?

Here comes another twist to my problem: someone told me that the LED turn signal tail-light assembly IS a plug and play. HOWEVER, I need to take the car to the dealership and have it re-programmed. Anyone know about this?
