Yeah and it will set the srs code and disable the airbag. Which can also be enabled when you take it to the dealer.

Belt up or walk

People can do whatever they want to do, I'm not trying to be their mother and tell them how to live (or die). I just asked a simple question so that I don't have to deal with the beeping.

I know people should buckle up, and I do every time. But quite frankly I don't really care if my passengers are splattered against my windshield, their fault.

Thanks for the unhelpful responses. Mods please close thread.
I know you live in Loozyanna but don't you have a state seat belt law? In my state every passenger is required to use the available safety equipment and a ticket can be issued for every unbelted passenger. As I recall the fines are somewhere north of $100 per person.

And as far as sitting in the back, when the car hits something the unbelted rear passengers end up against the windshield even when your own head is in the way.

My car doesn't move until all are belted in.

Guess what, because you arent man enough to tell your friends to buckle up, and you (God forbid) get into an accident and your friends go flying through the window, guess whose name will be on the lawsuit? Thats right, yours.

What does the airbag matter if you arent wearing your seatbelt?

Yeah that's why this local performance european shop quote me 300 and that I will have to sign a waiver if I want to disable the srs light.

Well, there is and there isn't

Traffic laws are govered by each state and to my knowledge there are no states that specifically require the use of a seat belt reminder in thier laws. (i could be wrong here)

Now, where we get the chime from is NHTSA and DOT. They do not make laws but they create a set of standards that all vehicles are required to satisfy before they are eligible to be sold in the US.

So the way I see it, unless someone here can lookup a law that requires this, I say it's just like any other modification that isn't DOT or NHTSA approved.

With that said, anyone stupid enough not to wear a seat belt is asking for trouble and his far more likely to meet a abrubt end in a car crash.

In summary, you can either find someone with Star or use:

Check that waiver carefully. It is likely not just stating that you will not hold them responsible. It probably also indicates that you are indemnifying them, so that if a 3rd person is injured (e.g. your passenger) and that person also attempts to hold the shop liable, you agree to accept that liability upon yourself as well!! A very bad deal all around!

And, although the OP stopped responding and asked the thread to be closed, I wonder if he is still checking these posts. I hope something written here got through to him. It's common sense and protection against a life-altering event not just for his passengers, BUT ALSO FOR HIM!!! I hope some of this sinks in before he has reason for regret.

I suppose he could just print out this whole thread, show it to his most difficult passengers, shrug his shoulders and say, "I guess you need to wear the belts!!"

Yeah I know that's why I was like "I'll just go ahead and install my recaros and install 2 harnesses plus the stock belt just in case i have to use my rear seats."

I just say wear your safety belt. It's worth it.

This is what happens to me! I use my left hand to put my seat belt on and my right hand to start the car, and my right hand usually finishes before my left hand so I hear the beeping for a couple seconds.

My wife occassionally doesn't want to wear her seatbelt so she buckles it first, then sits on it. I always tell her if something happens and causes her demise because of not wearing the seatbelt, i will cremate her and use the extra money for an S-Class!

Sorry... I thought we were talking about changing behavior which might save someone's life. You're right....that doesn't stack up to pages on whose rims are "sicker".

One of the best posts of this thread.

I'm wondering if any of those who appear to be uninformed about restraints know anything about head injuries. I have a close friend who struck his head (due to equipment failure) in an auto accident and I saw the injuries close up and the subsequent long recovery from a serious concussion.

I wonder if anyone here watched the 60 minutes segment last evening on concussions caused by head hits in football players. And not just professionals, but high school players also.

I'm not sure why these threads always turn into an argument about seat belts.... as far as my posts are concerned I just want to get rid of the damn beeping when you first start the engine before you put your seat belt on. I'm still going to wear it, and I don't mind if it beeps and goes crazy making noises after I put the car in drive. The initial beeping (before you start moving) is just completely obnoxious and unnecessary.

Only a true idiot would waste his time trying to turn off the seat-belt warning...

My pointless contribution to a pointless thread...

True, but I am actually very interested in this topic and think its one of the more important discussions, as it could save a life.

You described this as.....how did you say it....."a complete waste of time".

I can explain my contributions, but am still puzzled why someone who thinks the way you do keeps coming back.
