Dyno Mode!!!!!

Mods, can we please sticky this in this section...there are too many new people that don't know what to do in order to dyno their car...

here it is:

Dyno Mode
To Dyno your C32, you will need to do the following:
1. To start, the key must be removed from the ignition.
2. Insert the key and turn to position 1.
3. Immediately press and hold the trip odometer reset button until the instrument cluster beeps. There is no visual message, only an audio beep. Be patient, this takes around 40 seconds.
4. Press the lower menu button (it looks like two sheets of paper, the one with the writing in the background behind the blank one) 5. Press the up arrow button.
6. Press the "+" sign to disable the Traction System (turn "ON" test mode) 7. Start the engine, the traction system is now disabled.
To return to normal, remove the key and restart the engine. The traction control warning should no longer be in the cluster. If it is, shut the engine off and remove the key again. Then insert the key and turn to position 1. Note that the DYNO test screen is displayed immediately. Push the "-" button to enable the traction system (turn "OFF" test mode)
NOTE: When you first turn the key to position 1, ESP DYNO Test screen pops up, then after 1-2 seconds it may disappear while faults are displayed. If you weren't fast enough in pressing the "-" button before codes were displayed, just wait until all codes cycle by, then the ESP DYNO Test screen will reappear.
No, this doesn't work for any car but the 203, before you ask.
Enjoy, and I'm not buying you new tires!
On cars equipped with Command, to enter the diagnostic screen press and hold the following keys for about 8 seconds: Mute + 1 + 3

Thanks,
1FASTC32

Great knowledge. I wish I would have known that before. I will know to ask EVERYTHING here from now on. So, to ask another impossible question to answer, how much power would be lost doing it my way, and more importantly, did I screw up my car?

It's not faster, nor does it dyno differntly. The last dyno pulls that I did were split up. 1 in Dyno mode and 1 in regular mode.

There was no difference....maybe a few HP, but that could have been from other variables.

Does anyone know if these steps are supposed to work on a C55? I tried both the dyno mode & the diagnostic mode as indicated and nada.

C55 Dyno Mode Differences Figured Out

OK, I just went back out & tried various button press combinations & here's what I changed (from procedure above) to make it work on my C55:

1) Make sure your center info display is in the Odometer display mode - if the center display was in any other mode, it didn't work
2) Insert key & turn to position 1
3) Immediately press odometer reset button 3 times fast
4) You will hear a beep & see the center display between the speedometer & tach change to display battery voltage
5) Use the up & down arrows on the left of the wheel to roll through the various modes, including VIN number, vehicle software versions & dyno mode
6) Once in this mode, it seems to stay until you shut off the key. If you accidentally change menu's using the far left "sheets of paper" buttons, just keep pressing them & you go right back into the dyno mode.
7) When in the "ESP Dyno Mode" screen, press the "+" button on the right side of the wheel to enter dyno mode, same as above.

Update: once in the dyno mode, if you turn the key to position #2 you have an extra screen appear between battery voltage & VIN. This one appears to reset the service indicator & gives a choice of 3 different oils, however I could not get it to actually reset the mileage count.

Also, with the key in #2, the software information display on my car changed and the last lines now read:
ol: 7.1l
AMG M113
E55
I find it interesting is reads "E55" in my C55's software info screen.

I haven't fully figured out if there's a separate diagnostic mode that will reveal all the sensor readings like others have reported. Maybe I'll play around some more tomorrow & see if I can get lucky.

if you put your car on a dyno to measure the horsepower at the wheels, you have to disable the ESP system on the car, that is what dyno mode does...

That switch might as well be attached to nothing. It is a total fake-out. It will only partially disable the ESP, so the real idiots don't shut everything down and go out and kill themselves in a firey crash.

The Dyno mode is also, sometimes, used by a few brave souls to really test theirs cars on the track. It will also disable the ABS, so be careful.

What's the best gear to run dyno mode for optimum HP reading?

You are looking a 2 different functions. Follow the complete instructions, listed by 1fastc32, to enter dyno mode and disable the ESP. The extra COMAND instructions takes you to a separate diagnostics menu. Think of it as a prize in the box of cereal.

With Dyno on at the race track.

I can lap the road course at NHIS in NH 3 seconds faster a lap on Dyno. My guess is no ABS and no ESP.

within 1 second of you turning the key to position 1, you should press and hold the trip reset button on the cluster...it is all about timing
