C36 Engine internals! Are they Forged?

We all know that this subject jumps up every now and then and usually indirectly thru many threads.

Anyway, so are the internals of the 36 AMG forged, are the pistons stronger than your avg M104, M103 I-6?
We do know the Crank is off a 350D so that means it will take plenty power with ease.
But what abt the Rods, are they Forged?, can they take some serious power?

Plan is that if i dont switch over to W203 C55AMG, ill be replacing the stock ECU for an MS and later a custom turbo setup.
Thus there is a potential of making serious power and i dont want to find out the hard way that the limits of the engine are lower than i expected.

So guys dump as much info as u can here, it will be of gr8 help to all of us.
thnx

Well I was reading the AMG M104 is good for upto almost 400HP as is..
Compared to the "regular" M104 from the C280 the pistons on the AMG are changed out and swapped for light aluminum but particularly VERY strong ones, aswell the rods and crankshaft are both changed out for much higher strength ones aswell as you noted above. The AMG M104 has a cast Iron Block, so the Block itself can take a LOT of power, one of the strongest out there.. its a very over-engineered engine to start with.

well my M103 made atleast 120hp over stock when i turbo charged it and lived for 25k km on a bad tune
before it broke a ring. But pistons did show signs of knock and lean conditions.
So maybe the AMG can make 400 safe with a good tune but was hoping to make more than that if i plan to go boosted with it.
But i guess its all early talk still

The block can take almost anything you throw at it, but over 400 I would change out the pistons, headgasket etc..
