Well I was reading the AMG M104 is good for upto almost 400HP as is..
Compared to the "regular" M104 from the C280 the pistons on the AMG are changed out and swapped for light aluminum but particularly VERY strong ones, aswell the rods and crankshaft are both changed out for much higher strength ones aswell as you noted above. The AMG M104 has a cast Iron Block, so the Block itself can take a LOT of power, one of the strongest out there.. its a very over-engineered engine to start with.

well my M103 made atleast 120hp over stock when i turbo charged it and lived for 25k km on a bad tune
before it broke a ring. But pistons did show signs of knock and lean conditions. So maybe the AMG can make 400 safe with a good tune but was hoping to make more than that if i plan to go boosted with it. But i guess its all early talk still

The block can take almost anything you throw at it, but over 400 I would change out the pistons, headgasket etc..

Attached are some comparisons photos between C36 and stock (M103 not M104) parts that I saved from my own project.
