SOLVED: Cruise Control Magnetic Clutch Disengaging

EDIT: A member of BenzWorld has created the ultimate guide to fixing this. His handle is GDC and I believe his name is Greg. With his permission I am reposting his article\walkthrough in PDF form to help all of you guys. See attachment.

Here we go again, Part III.

Enjoy. You are looking at an M104 ETA (Electronic Throttle Actuator) enabled throttle body assembly with the integrated harness and connector.

Need to buy 20- and 22- gauge automotive wire before I can complete this job.

Having just done this job, I can give a bit of advice as well:
  • It is best to avoid using the original rubber harness sleeve
  • I used 20 gauge wiring and it worked very well
  • Home depot has the supplies to help you weatherproof this harness: Waterproof Electrical Tape (self-amalgamating electrical wrap) and Liquid Tape (for sealing the connector and the harness entry point into the throttle body)

Wow, I can't believe the wiring is that bad. I recently changed my ETA due to stalling and an inoperative cruise control.

I know! Its such a shame - these cars are fantastic mechanically speaking...

Oh well. I know I won't be buying replacement harnesses of any kind. Will craft all my own.

These harness problems on the C36 are mind boggling

I'm starting to think they aren't specific to C36s.

However, C36s are older, so they bring the problems out quicker.

The M104 ETA problem applies to E320 and S320s as well as early C280. Not just W202 but also W124.

At least in my case of the ETA was replaced on my 94 C280. I might have to slice open the harness on the ETA now as curiosity is getting the best of me.

I hope none of this happens to my C43 (KNOCK ON WOOD) it is unreal how crappy some of the harness's are in the C36. What ever happened to German craftsmanship???? I applaud you in your discoveries as well as your how to's on harness rebuilds. Keep up the good work

The bad harnesses aren't C36 specific. The 1993 through 1995 model years of all MB and Porsche cars were impacted.

This is a 1995 911. This is known to fry a DME (ecu) and other electronics in a 911.
