Sluggish after service, ECU reflashed?

Just did my 10k mile service and the car feels a little sluggish WRT throttle response, they didn't mention any issues, any chance they flashed the chip (I had Kleeman tuning)? To remove this ad, register today or login if you already are registered!

I had similar feeling after K1 and then 10k service. It feels back to the way it felt when it was originally flashed. Not sure why the sluggish feeling after service. I sincerely hope they did not reflash, but do not think they did.

ajag:

I took my C63 in for the 10k service and the car ran terribly after the service.
I'm sure when they hooked up the diagnostics that they applied a reflash at that time.

I had purchased the Evosport/Powerchip tune just in case something like this were to happen since I live in So. California and could get over to the Powerchip facilities quickly to get the ECU tune restored.

It was like nite and day after Jeremy restored my ECU tune and I drove off with a big grin just like before the dealer visit.

I did not say anything to the dealer and just wrote it off as a lame dealer service call!!!

Call Kleeman and explain and they will make it right for you again!

Good luck

Phil

wow.. that sucks.

Its funny, I was thinking of this very same scenario on the drive in to work today wondering if this could or would happen.
I guess expressly saying to the dealer "DO NO REFLASH MY ECU" might work.

I think this is a perfectly good example of why ppl need to talk openly (or at least in hypotheticals ) about having a tuned car with an SA; basically, you need to find a mod-friendly SA who knows you have an ecu flashed car and will take care of you and make sure your ecu is not reflashed and/or your car is not flagged. I don't think I will get the Kleemann K1 ecu flash until I find a good SA I can trust.

Ya I agree. I'll make sure I can find a mod-friendly SA before doing even a minimal mod like the K1.

Although I'm not sure how flexible even an easy going SA would be if you went any further than that (like adding new headers). I assume this would be too obvious and they would be risking too much pretending not to notice them in the event your car ever had any problems related to the modification and warranty repairs came into question.

They should offer a factory tune! Definitely an opportunity for profit here.

See my poll, maybe we can get the ball rolling and prove there's a market for this

If MBUSA/AMG offered a factory tune at the dealer, how much would you pay?

There is no mention in the invoice of a flash, but the car is definitely not the same. Cory at Kleeman has been great, offered to reflash it again at no charge!

Good deal. Sorry for your inconvenience if you have to remove and ship again.

At least its getting resolved at no cost to you. I will keep this in mind when I go in for my service.

I was referred to a SA who appreciates MB enhanced performance and knows to make sure the ecu is not touched. When I did my A service a few weeks ago I had an intermittent cel for "evap leak". I was told that this is a known problem requiring the replacemant of two purge valves and a software update. This may be being done automaticaly by some dealers without discussion?

I think Each MB dealer service department must be different. The one I go to in Seattle is doing the Kleeman K2 for me and they have a service advisor who specializes in ECU tunes from both Kleeman and Renntech, plus does the header installs from Kleeman. My sales man is the one who put me in contact with the Service advisor ???? My cousin had a Kleeman K1 put in on his SL55 and has some work done on his Maclaren SLR from the same service advisor, I found out after talking with him. The MB dealer up in Lynnwood Wash. has an ECU guy as well who does the ECU tunes??? I asked about the warranty and they said as long as its Kleeman or Renntech they will honor it as they were both very reputable ECU dealers and they have worked with them awhile with no problems. So I guess it just depends???? As you guys said it sure would be nice if MBUSA offers a factory tune with none of the hassles you guys are experiencing. Good luck.

Sounds like I should start calling around the LA area to find a mod-friendly dealer. This is great for you guys but aggravating not to have this option.

I guess I should ask my SA if they re-flashed my ECU when they did my 10k service. Why would they do this anyway? Is this normal procedure?

I think for the most part they don't care I only heard about one instance when we did a status 8 (void warranty) on a customers car for ECU tune. The customer didn't tell us the car was turned and came in for a ECU flash recall. The flash bricked both of his cars ECU's and he started raising hell and cursing at the shop foreman. They gave him the option to buy new ECU's or they would status 8 it. He told them to F off and then they called MBUSA and had them void the warranty. I think MB is paying more atttention to these types of mods now. It's possible now that the software is detected just while looking for fault codes and it prompts the tech for a reflash. I havent heard about any others cars having this issue so it's possible they are doing more advanced checks now with the star diagnosis machines with the W204 and maybe all newer models to come.

Jon, do you by any chance work for a mod-friendly dealer in SoCal? You would certainly have my business.
