Carlsson Tune (585HP???)

A tuner named Carlsson just announced they have tuned the 2010 E63: "The 2010 E63 AMG puts out 525 hp and 476 lb-ft of torque stock, but with minor modifications, Carlsson upped the output to 585 hp and 513 lb-ft of torque. To do this, Carlsson only needed to remap the ECU and add a new exhaust system." They managed to get almost 600HP out of our M156 6.2L engine by just doing an ECU tune and new exhaust??? Why is it with an ECU tune our detuned c63 engines only achieve stock E63 performance numbers (525HP/460TQ) yet when you flash the "non-detuned" E63's ECU and add an exhaust upgrade you get another 60HP on top of their base 525HP? Shouldn't both engines put out the same power with similar tunes?

Part of that is marketing. I believe it when I actually get to see a E63 and C63 before and after the dyno and before and after the mods.

I am kind of new to mercedes but veteran on gazillion other cars, I haven't seen stuff like compression ratio,fuel trims,injectors duty cycle,throtle body dimensions nor I have an accurate drivetrain percentage loss but there are many variables into this so I don't want to speculate.

Whatever it is just keep this is mind, a E63 has this against:

more weight
more tire friction on the road
perhaps more extra rotational weight due to larger tires and rims

a C63 takes the lead on the stuff mentioned above but takes a hit on lesser power output.

^^ I also had a 335i Coupe modded, in fact, one of the first one modded in the country/world. I was on the list for the first piggy back made by Vishnu, there weren't many tuners around at the time.. The demand on the Vishnu Procede was such that you had to prepay before they were built, I even had the piggy back before my car was even built from the German factory...

Carllson is one fo the top tuners for MB in Europe along with AMG and Brabus. I have been to their factory twice which is really something to see if your ever in Germany.The person who ownes the company has a brother that is a big time tuner for BMW (Hartge BMW)

When u flash a c63 cpu all they are doing is removing the throttle restriction to bring it up to standard 63 engine hp .

A flash alone to a typical hp 63 motor IMO wont really do much without adding more airflow or a free flowing exhaust .

+1. I was one of Shiv's original beta testers for his first piggyback for the BMW 335i, the XEDE in Dec., 2006. Then, he abandoned that XEDE box in favor of the all digital piggyback box and rebranded it as the PROcede. I had PROcede v1, then v2, and finally v3 PnP. Although I loved my PROcede v3 335i and the HP/TQ it had for the $$, I was definitely getting sick and tired of all the PROcede revisions, paid upgrades, etc...quite frankly, it was never-ending. I say a MB C63 AMG with a simple ecu flash tune is 1,000,000,000 x better!

585 Hp = ~475 rwhp with 19% factor for drive train loss. There are several C63's at this number with tunes, LONG TUBE HEADERS and other minors.

When they say a new exhaust sytem, they may actually mean a full exhaust sytem, which would start with headers and go all the way through to the mufflers.... in which case, they have not achieved much (if any) gains over a C63 with a tune and long tube headers
