C63 EXHAUST & TUNE DEVLOPEMENT = 12sec pass

We have been working very closley with powerchip australia devolping custom tunes for our C63 exhaust system, there has been over 100 hours dyno testing & 6months of road testing.Working closley with powerchip australia we were able to acess the cam maps & some target torques maps in the c63 pcm, there has been some good results, yesterday for the first time the car was taken to the track in full wieght with street tyres,we were only able to get 3 runs in as it was real busy,we tried a few different ways of getting it down the track

First run was with traction off, there was heavy wheel spin 1st and 2nd,with a 1.8 60 footer we managed a 12.1@116mph

Second run we tried with traction sport mode,we managed a 1.8 60 footer again ,reeling of a 12.24@116mph

The third run we left the traction control on,we managed a 13.2@115.89mph

The runs were with 19inch rims with street tyres, this vehicle also has coil overs and is dropped on its arse,my thoughts are with the std suspension and bit more tweaking a 11sec pass is in the taking, making it a very fast street car ! heres some pics of the exhaust system,i will put up some dyno sheets when i get a chance.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

The key element in our headers was the step down pipe to slow the gases down at the collector to increase velocity in the exhaust system, this resulted in some huge torque and power gains in the low end and mid range, even at 1/4 throttle the throttle response was incredible.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

With the design of the mid sections there was a few key elements we kept in mind, which we achieved

1 - Good ground clearance

2 - We biult the system to be drone free

3 - We retained the original tips for the stock look

4 - The note iss increadible distinct to the AMG

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

We designed the system as a bolt on in three peices for easy insallation and removal.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

Heres some other c63's we have done

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]

This is when we took 55 & 63 in for the exhaust devolpement

Sonny, your development is coming along nicely and that exhaust is to die for.

Look good clean work what are the advantages of running straight pipes vs. x-pipe?
It will be nice if you post a sound clip and what kind of paint was use to for the black pipes?

I will try and get some sound files up soon, though the note is deep and throaty, sounds different to anything else we have ever heard.

Most of the mercs dont have x pipes, though we did do some in length extensive testing and we wont be using a x pipe as it didnt make or loose any power, though it changed the note,we have what we call a "kiss" pipe, its just a very small kiss to equalise gases which results in a nice note.the exhaust system comes in stainless steel & is painted with high temperature heat paint resistant to 1000deg,all the mufflers are hand made to our specifications, system can be ordered extra loud or on the quieter side.

Nice work. Glad you still incorporated the "kiss" like in the OEM resonator.

+1

Also, does any point in the exhaust meet up at the factory resonator location? I can't tell if the black piping with cats or the stainless steel straight pipes will meet up for those that want to retain the back portion of their catback exhaust?

Thanks

At tis point we are not sure if they will fit left hand drive,it will meet up,though i will tell you that because of the type of rear mufflers the c63 has,it sounds terrible and way too loud,we tryed a few combo's as follows,

Headers on stock system(terrible sound)
Headers & mid section with stock rear mufflers(worst tone i have ever heard)
Stock headers and mid & front section with cat back(not bad tone and some power pickup)

We have even biult a dual 2.5inch system to test as well,we spent many hours and materials, what we have is the best combo for power and sound,i will try and get some sound files and drive by's soon

No offense but the first time I EVER drag raced anything, I raced my C63 stock except for Kleemann K1 tune - I ran a 12.28. Stock 18" Worn P-Zeros. Am I missing something here?

Well an ECU tune isn't exactly stock That's our biggest bang for buck mod right there. But in anycase, what was your trap speed and 60' with the 12.28?

12.4 and 116 for tune+headers isn't exactly very high numbers.

Maybe they will get better times and traps once the development is finished.

i dont know about you guys out in ausi but i ran a 12.1 at 115 with a 1.8XX 60 foot. and that was STOCK.

yes i understand that weather has ALOT of play. but i ran my car at +5500 DA in 95F weather and got 12.0X at 118.XX. that was with a TUNE.

i hope to see faster numbers from that c63 b/c for tune and headers that a lil slow. great work of the fab do. looks good.

Nice 60'! That's very impressive for your first time, especially on street tires. I've been several times already and can't seem to do better than a 2.3 on my 19" street tires. I think my launch technique needs a radical change.

I have no fuking clue how you guys are getting 1.8-1.9 60 times on street tires. I can't get traction worth **** and if I feather it with street tires, I still can't break 2.0. This is up in Canada though.

What power gains did you get from just the exhaust setup??
