Your new carlsson cl 600 looks awesome. Best i've ever seen!! I've got a couple of questions . Who did the conversion and why did you decide to go this route versus a CL65 or 63.

Apologies to the OP, I'm just one of those old school guys that think AMG cars look like Hot Wheels. If you like it, by all means enjoy and be proud of it. We can agree that there's a terrific car underneath, 600 is the one.

Well said.....all of these aftermkt things...or even much of mfr-spec'd stuff... end up looking/sounding like "trying too hard"....the delicate (or not-so-delicate) balance btwn interesting perf stuff and stuff that's trailer pk (or whatever mockable ghetto) deluxe....reality is most buyers are trying to buy an "image", though many don't realize which image they've bought....

Yes indeed. In the dealer's warehouse my CL600 was parked next to one of the CL65 special editions, with the Alubeam paint. I would have paid large sums for the AMG brakes and Style IV (030 package) wheels, and that paint and the special interior color were incomparable, but all present agreed that the non-AMG bodywork without all the slots and bumps is far more beautiful.

Performance will always be topped in a year or two, and it can often be improved (perhaps none so easily as an ECU upgrade for the 600). But lasting beauty is is for me the only valid counterbalance to the considerable sums we lose in depreciation.

Agree...

Saw a 40th Anniv CL65 live and thought paint was too "LA" (esp Calabasas/NwptCoast) for my taste (esp in bright CA sun)....

But I also view Silver Arrow paint of SL63 030 launch ed as being too gaudy for my tastes....prefer more subtle iridium silver w/blk leather and cf....

Always a difficult balance of configuring stuff for guys who've owned/driven many interesting cars and have no interest in advertising selves/cars....vs first-time buyers who (sometimes) are seeking attention....real-world marketing trade-offs suck.....problem is most MB/AMG marketers don't seem to realize that their repeat buyer base is fairly divergent from one-off buyers in terms of tastes; most repeat CL buyers have no aspirations to ever be ricers/rappers....

I decided to buy the Carlsson CL600 for the simple reason that I wanted something different, more exclusive. I'm tired of seeing CL63's on the streets, and the CL65 is indeed a very special car, however it looks the same as the 63's. The Carlsson CL gave me the option of having a V12 bi-turbo with over 600 Hp (Carlsson ECU) and with a total different look. The conversion was done by Carlsson America in South Florida.

Thanks for your reply. Another question, hows the performance (acceleration, braking, and handling) on the Carlsson compared to the AMG cars. Thanks

SilverArrow07:

I think the CL600 with its stock wheels and simple fascia looks somehow lacking (no offense to CL600 owners...it might by my somewhat immature taste...being 36 y/o). I don't think the Carlsson package is overdone at all. I think it provides a solution for CL600 owners who do not have the AMG package available (or don't necessarily like how sport-packaged CL550's, CL63's and CL65's all share the same body kit). I think some detractors fail to remember that even AMG was an aftermarket provider before it was taken in-house...and they had some pretty profound ...somwhat outlandish looking products back in the day. Good luck with your beautiful new ride!!!

As others have asked...how does ECU upgrade compare with your stock 07 CL600?

Tom

really? i am sorry but I dont agree with you here though. I have the choice of buying both the cl and s600 but instead chose the 63 and never had any regrets! I LOVEE the way AMG cars look and modifying them dont always end up being ricey. And I believe I definitely know the image that I bought

Well... I tend to agree with WSH and ColdWater.
I too test drove (back to back) both 63 and 600 and chose 600. Torque for such a heavy cars is EVERYTHING.
I guess if you want
Fast looking car -> 63
Fast car -> 600.
Case closed. For me at least.

One edit:

Both Fast and Fast Looking -> 65

car manufacturers design a model to appeal to the widest demographic possible in the niche the car is used to fill. stock, the car will appeal to the average consumer of that demographic the most, as that will be the largest market for it. a lot of people can afford an expensive car, some just choose to make it their own. at the end of the day it will reflect their personality to some degree and not just their income or station in life. if you like all your cars exactly as they came out of the dealership, congratulations, when they're designing cars, you're that special average everyman the designer has in his head, and your tastes are about as common as could be.

anyway, silverarrow, the car looks really good, very clean and not overdone... good job...
