09 CL550 vs CL600
Hey guys I am new to this board and thinking about either getting a CL550 4matic or a CL600. I love to have the horsepower that the CL600 gives but I live in NY so now that the 550 is 4matic I could have best of both worlds.
I read from other posts that people love the CL600 and put snow tires on it. What do you guys think is the best move? BTW my wife drives the S550 4matic, I am going to trade in my M5. |

Do not make the same mistake I made. Switched from CL550 to 600 after 4 months and $20k. lighter on the trade.
I live in PA, snow tires are absolute must in heavy winter and you have to switch them (so what). There is no comparison between 4Matic flobby suspension and ABC (gravity defying) heaven. Have a test drive and come back to the board with some observations. Better yet follow my post http://mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=235100. Happy testing Mark.

Agree w/markopolo....
CL550 is a colossal waste of money/time....know couple of guys in Greenwich who quickly traded-in S550 4Matics for new, '08 S600 w/winter tires (last winter)...and are pleased w/decision (despite deprec hit)... IMO, 4Matics are about as moronic as SUVs for 99% of guys who live/work in regions like NYC/Chic....even in winter, much of time weather is cold/dry, poss slushy....would much rather have superior active safety of ABC, more powerful brakes, poss smarter stability controls, etc than any archaic 4Matic system on a car/SUV w/marginal brakes/chassis dynamics, esp when faced w/an emergent evasive maneuver... My sense is choice of winter tire/wheel can easily trump safety value of any AWD w/marginal tires, esp all-season (AKA "no season")... |

Living in Chicago area I have to concur,AWD will only improve the acceleration from stop, cornering and stopping is only tire dependent and a RWD with winter tires will always outhandle and outbrake AWD with it's standard all-seasons. |
