2002 CL55 AMG Driveline Problems

Hey guys,
As the title states, I have a 2002 CL 55 that has started giving me problems regarding some sort of drive line problem. The left rear drivers side makes a loud whirling noise, similar to tire road noise all the way up to 80mph then it is virtually silent. I thought it might be a wheel bearing but I don't think so because it silences itself. Does anyone have any kind of clue of what this may be?

Thanks

Sounds like a wheel bearing, but are you sure that your rear pads are not near the end of their life?

You can get that noise from them too when they are not on the sensors, but getting close. My front pads did that. Since there is always some contact from the pads to the rotors on disc brakes, the small amount of friction material gets hot fast and can make that noise.

hope its a cheap fix.
