I owned an E46 M3 some years ago.

An M3 to a CL 55 is a slice of pizza to a private dinner prepared by Eric Ripert on the French Riviera.

Lol~! Very true. I've had a lot of seat time in both and the above statement holds true. The E46 M3 [no offense to anyone] is more of a stepping stone to high-end cars and, though it's an M model, is still considerably less than a CL55. If you're more of a track driver the E46 M3 is an excellent car, otherwise the CL is best for day to day.

Just my $0.02

I have an M3 and an SL55. While it isn't a CL, it does share the same engine. What would you like to know?

I have a number of cars, but I really like the overall package of the M3. It doesn't match the SL for speed or luxury, but it is a nice, well rounded performance car.

However, if you are talking about handling...

The M3 feels like you are wearing a light pair of Nike running shoes and the CL55 feels like a pair of steel toed work boots with three pairs of socks.

Apples to oranges comparison. An M6 would be a more reasonable comparison with the CL55.

What exactly are you trying to compare here? E46 M3 is a beastly car with amazing handling, decent comfort. Feels much more like a sports car than a luxury car. CL55 is a straight line animal, heavy, very big, sloppy handling yet superior luxury. However you're comparing a $55k car to one of more than double it's cost. More luxury should be expected.
