The thought crossed my mind, what if I could get more money by trading this car in then by selling it..lol! Anybody out there experience this? I kow the auctions have been very poor witht he value of these cars...but maybe joe schmuck could give more...

Take it to carmax and see what they'll give you...........that's what I did with my SRT-8 Charger. They offered me $2,000 more than the stealerships would offer and they don't require you to buy another car.

The problem with "special" cars like this is that Carmax and any dealer will immediately look at the latest auction prices. If you know the auction prices, then you know what to expect as a trade-in value. You might want to be sitting when you hear the news...

in my experiences carmax doesn't offer anywhere close to what you could get if you did it privately.
think about it, they have to turn around and sell that car and make a profit; in these times that is getting harder and harder. it takes a lot longer and you will deal with a lot of flakes and waste a lot of time but if you want to get the most from your car its the best option. but if convenience is your main concern carmax would be the best option |

^ probably true, but its the most money you'll get by selling the car then & there, not having to wait around for that right person to come buy the car

I got 2k more from a dealer (yup, trade in) than I did from Carmax.
Still, if I wanted to just walk away from the car, Carmax was a decent option. Quick and far less risky than taking 5 figures in a cashiers check from someone you don't know. |

What about tax credit that we have in LV? Unless your car was well below 20k you got about the same from both the dealership and carfags.

Well, I will only sell if it is convenient..lol! Not in a rush, but if the right offer comes thru she is definitely a goner. It's funny I called my friend today since he works for the dealer and asked to check the Gal's book value, after looking it up he said the value was not in the book....that could only mean one thing...The values are what ever the market is going for...

With the market as tough as it now, I would have to believe that a trade in would be your best bet because the stealerships probably have a lot of rebate money/trunk money available to help you get out of your car. They will have much more incentive to bargain with you right now, especially right now at the end of the month and I'm sure there are plenty of good deals right now trying to get rid of 2008 model (even 07 ) leftovers.

when I had the deal worked up on my CL65, I called for an insurance quote, they said they didn't have the CL65 listed, they wanted to go on the original msrp.... I didn't want to tell them $185k! so I said I wasn't sure....
she said, was it over $80k? yes over $100k? yes over $125k? um, maybe? she said that was enough..... ![]() I can't see a dealer offering more than $50k, but who knows, I was at $69k on the deal I was working on, and they wouldn't budge, not even to fix/repair bent wheels, maybe some dealers get too heavy into these cars.... I agree I would be shocked to see a dealer go $50K for a trade-in given this economy. Tom |

So inside...I don't get it.
If you are trying to insinuate that someone else told me about your "adventure"...you should go back and check all your posts and text messages you sent me.... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what your "adventure" is... ![]() Tom |

Jody out here on the west coast I cant find wholesalers who would take a CL65... the desire is just not there coupled with incredible plummeting values. It is arguably the worst trade in unit out here in SoCal and the OC.
Before I sold me car in Jan of 2008- I tried the trade in avenue (in a better economy Ill add) and there were no bites except at 60% of BB (88k KBB at the time). So I dumped it private party who knew how I took care of the car and got more. It was time well spent but did I get the real number I wanted, no. I didnt care, it was worth the loss to get out of the car and get the 997TT. Cash is king but happiness rules all. Here is the empirical data (heartbreaking for a seller) all 2005 CL65 units from Manheim sales: 10/02/08 MANHEIM Lease $49,000 16,480 Avg BLACK 12G A Yes 09/04/08 RIVRSIDE Regular $53,124 27,046 Above NONE NON N Yes 08/28/08 RIVRSIDE Lease $38,500 41,897 Below BLACK 12G A No 07/30/08 W PALM Lease $44,000 40,090 Avg BLACK 12G A Yes 07/07/08 CHICAGO Lease $46,000 42,070 Avg BLACK 12G A Yes 07/03/08 RIVRSIDE Lease $48,000 49,127 Avg BLACK 12G A Yes
