Intense run with the modded M6 (in Mexico of course)

My friend has been saying the modded M6 (450WHP) will keep up with the modded CL65 (559WHP) in high speed run. So off we went and had three amazing runs. I couldn't capture them on the video since all the runs needed full drivers attention. I would say this is the most crazy run I ever did and I don't think I will ever do this again.

1st run: 100-180mph (speed indicated on the CL65)
CL65 wins by I would say about 12 car lengths

2nd run: 120-180mph (speed indicated on the CL65)
CL65 wins by I would say about 10 car lengths

3rd run: 150-200mph!!!! (speed indicated on the CL65)
CL65 wins by I would say about 6 car lengths

What's amazing was both cars were still accelerating at 200mph!!!
On a side note; it appears that the M6 had a speedometer error when CL65 showed 200mph, M6 speedometer indicated 212mph.

Interesting! My father had an M6 for a while and I didn't know how it stacked up against the faster MBs. CLs were rare enough in the UK, let alone the AMG models!

He never took it up to high speed (well no more than 150mph). It used to garner a lot of attention from other people on the motorway, usually Mitsubushi Evos, Imprezas and the ilk. His tactic was to take the care up to about 140mph, then just settle back to 85mph/90mph, his usual highway speed. He felt his point had been made

Haha, yeah after about 135 or so, a stock STI or Evo really hits a brick wall. And they are geared pretty short.

What mods did the M6 have? Its amazing how hard they pull at super high speeds.

No aftermarket wheels but I swapped the stock rear tires with the Michelin PS2 295/30-19 (smaller overall diameter)

Nice runs!!! There seems to be a certain myth that the M5/M6 will pull on the the 65's above 150mph. I know your car isn't exactly stock ...but neither was your M6. I am glad that your CL65 acquitted itself so well up top.

Do you run 91 octane on the CL65?

tom

Yes, both cars ran w/ crappy CA 91 octane. Someone told me that ecu modded CL65 runs better with 100 octane. I think its a BS but what do I know?

Greg is this the same M6 that we raced almost a year ago? Did you buy it off your buddy?

My M6 was slower back then but still wont hold a candle to your 65

A turbo engine will benefit from the higher octane gas...

Yes indeed, my near stock SL600 TT loves race gas the difference is very noticable.

I've talked w/Vadim/VRP & he told me that basic CA 91 is very poor grade gasoline, & 93 or better will really wake the car up & bring out the full factory or tuned potential.

Yeah, we actually traded the car. He took my Z06 and I took his M6.

Well, if that's the case then I may do it again with 100 octane gas. Stay tuned

I heard that you need some mileage before the ECU will adapt to the 100 octane gas. Now that gas prices have fallen a bit, it won't be such a huge hit to fill it up a couple of times with the race gas.

I noticed a SOTP difference after driving about 40-50 miles Also saw the difference when running some friends after, results were night/day

The closest place that sells 100 Octane gas at the pump is 50 miles away...I should be feeling it by the time I get back here.

Sweet side note: 1 thing I've noticed using 93-100 octane is from a dead stop ala' stoplight & romp the pedal she'll light up the tires & continue thru the entire intersection until I lift off the gas, vs using 91 octane the tires light up but traction cntrl quickly intervenes cutting power & applying brakes shortly after initial short burnout etc.. (Both these tests of mine are done w/ESP off)

With high octane it changes the character of the car, & no it's not just extra worn tires as I've ran it multiple times w/91 octane vs 93-100....

I have heard this too, assuming stock to stock. I can't really see that, but its been claimed by many. Also, I would imagine that the M6 might also have something to gain with moving up to the 93 or even 100, being a very high compression engine, if not as much as the 65. Correct me if I'm wrong?
