Pics of CL55 resonator removal

I removed my resonators today, and I must say that I love the new sound, not too loud but a lower note, best part is when you punch it, thats when you can hear that you have a AMG. To remove this ad, register today or login if you already are registered!

Trust me, it is not a big deal at all, after doing all the research of buying resonator delete kits, x-pipes etc. I called around to all the custom muffler shops and got prices, checked all the forums, then laughed at all the different info people gave me, one guy said he could not ut them off because he did not have the right equipment

It was a muffler shop, go figure. The custom shops wanted $200 up to do the job because they see a Mercedes, or hear the word AMG, I ended up going to a Midas in Santa Monica and he looked at it, said 30 minute job, charged me $100 bucks. Any muffler shop should have the straight pipe you need as standard piping, no need to x-pipe on the CL, also to my surprise the sound is barely different than stock when idling which is great, you only notice a little difference when cruising and a huge difference when dropping the hammer.

I will try to get a video this morning to upload how mine sounds.

Thanks for quick reply. I went to one of local muffler shop today. They want 200 dollar for it just like you said. They highly recommend not to do it because they said all their client came back and reinstall their resonator back again. I don't know whose advice I should take. It will be really nice if someone can upload their CL55 on youtube or so.

Thanks

Why did he say that they all come back to reinstall their resonators? I took my own off today and it does make a sound difference. Especially when you punch the gas.

How does a sound different? Is it too loud when you are idle? The guy told me it's too loud and too high pitch for most people. But I really want to know all your experience of how it perform.

No not at all. When you are at idle, you can very hardly hear the difference, like there was no modification to the muffler system. Only when you mash the accelerater you can hear the deep tone. Sounds really good to me. It gives you a real sporty sound.

I see what you mean. What kind pipe you get to replace that resonator? The local muffler just quote me with aluminum material not stainless. They told me it's too pricey to use stainless. True or false? One more Q, when you cruise around 50, did you notice any difference?

I will stop being lazy, going out to my parking garage now to film the sound, should have it up shortly, but trust me, you can hardly tell when idling, as a matter of fact I cant tell, sounds stock, but when you put the hammer down, the sound of love is in the air no hig hpitched sound just a nice low note, not even loud enough for the police to know.

Off to film.

My own sounds similar but you hear the real deal when you punch the gas on the road. I'll get a sound clip of the car taking off so you can hear the grumble....

I'm really tempted to do it on my CL600.
I wonder how it's gonna sound after removal?
I'm thinking, if I don't like it, I can always put it back...

Resonator delete - done! Thanks for the sound clips so I knew what to expect. Total cost, just under 100 bucks in Davis, California. Sound is great, a little lower tone at low or partial throttle, really screams and pops at wide open throttle. I kept the old parts in the event I wanted to put them back on, but I just don't see that in my future . . .

Haha, nice, I told you, I still have my resonators in my trunk but gonna pack them away for good, even if I sell the car, which I don't think I will, I don't think I will put them back on. Next for me on the list is to get rid of the annoying chirp when the Supercharger clutch engages.

Would removing the resonator void the factory or extended warranty?

I don't think so, there is no sensors attached to anything, plus it is a secondary muffler (resonator) we are talking about.

I am itching to get it done but somehow I am thinking twice. Is there any AMG owner a local of Maryland? I would prefer to hear it in person.
