Door/Check Strap question
My driver side door strap mechanism (it is the part that keeps the door from swinging out too far) was making a loud noise whenever I opened or closed the door so I took it apart. The metal was severely cracked on it so it would not hold the screws tightly so it was only a matter of time before it would have completely loosened itself inside the door.
The part looks like it will be EXPENSIVE!!!! Does anyone know the price of the part? I know I could wait till morning but I am curious to find out now!!! Greg

I think I'm in the same boat....only mine IS broken, my door just swings all the way open, or wont stay open. Just depends on the incline. Would that be the same thing??

Yup..it is the exact same part that we have broken. I would hurry up and take off the inner door panel and take the part off before it comes in contact with your window frame unit. It could bend the window frame if you dont take it off in time and a new one is about 400 bucks from what I have read.
I just got a part number and the correct name is Check Strap 140 720 09 16, but I can not find a price for this at all. I am guessing 80.00 so hopefully I am way off on that price!!! Greg EDIT: I just found a site that sells both sides for only 50 bucks plus shipping!!! http://www.rmeuropean.com/Part-Numbe..._5C1313F8.aspx Is this a reputable site?

its easy to install just a few bolts and removing the door panel. Mine cost about 75 including tax.

I just ordered mine this morning..Mercedes of Georgetown has them for 34 bucks while Mercedes of Austin had them for 75 so be sure and shop around to get the lowest price. It is the same part number for either side, the only deal was that it had to be ordered and will take 48 hours to get it. For now I am driving a hooptie with no door panel since I am too lazy to put it back on for just one day.

Heads up: $49.92 is actually just for ONE of these at RMEuropean. The "two (2)" is just indicating a car has multiple of this part, but the price is for a single unit.
Note: this part is universal for both sides. |

$37.00 FIX!!!
I picked up the part at the dealer on Friday and it took me about 20 minutes total to put everything together again!!
The total for the part was only 37.00 My window used to jam every now and then on auto up but now its as smooth as ever. The window frame must have been hitting the loose door/check strap somehow so I kind of fixed 2 annoyances with one. ![]() ![]() The only issue is that the metal part that shows is brass colored instead of black so I will have to paint that part so that it blends in with the rest of the car.
