Just installed new motor mounts. Helped cut out vibration.

My car has 96k miles. I just replaced the motor mounts. Its helpful with 2 people. One person can do all the wrenching from underneath the car and the other person can guide the wrench to the top bolt of the motor mount from the top of engine bay. Thats my tip/advice. I also recommend turning the streering wheel to a point where it will be easier for you to reach to the top of each motor mount bolt from underneath. Fairly easy. At first i thought its impossible to reach the top bolt. But after spending an hour, it was done. To remove this ad, register today or login if you already are registered!

Motor Mounts

Thanks for the tip. I am about to change the motor mounts and transmission mount on my 2001 S55. Any other things I should look out for, or is it fairly straight forward?

Yeah, this is a very common issue with our W208's. Be prepared to change them again in the future. They don't seem to last very long, supposedly we can use the W209 motor mounts on our W208's and they are much better quality.

Also, when you change out the motor mounts make sure you change out the transmission mount as well. Its a cheap mount, easy to change and you might as well do it while you already have it lifted in the air!!

One of my friend have w208 but he never had this type of problem. I don't think it is a common problem.

Well the rest of the W208 community might disagree with you...BUT to each his own... MAYBE your friend had some SUPER lasting motor mounts that we all need to know about. Please inform us on what type your friend used?

When you said it helped out ur vibration did you mean the steering wheel vibration or the body ?

Both steering and body. It helped out a little now that i have been driving it more. I still have some "stumble" that i feel. I also changed out the transmission mount. Still have a slight engine stumble at ide. So i took out the maf and sprayed it with maf cleaner. Still have some engine stumble. The spark splugs were changed fairly recent and i get 30mpg on the freeway. Any suggestions?

Have you recently changed out the spark plug cables and the air filter? Are any erros showing up on the dash? How many miles on the car and has the MAF ever been replaced?

Im not sure of the spark plug WIRES have been changed.. I know the spark plugs have been though. Thanks, ill look into that.

I think the maf is original and my car has 96k miles. MAF looks very clean. I only use paper airfilters. Airfilter in new also. I dont have any malfunctions showing on the dashboard.

Anyone from socal that we can swap out maf to see if thats my problem? lunch will be on me.

Its your friends car and all but does he know what to look for? Mine purred like a kitten with no signs but the mount had failed. Up to you but Ive seen dents in the hood by unsuspecting owners that jumped on the gas 1 too many times. They are liquid filled and they WILL fail.

How much vibration are we talking about here? Cause i literally just noticed that my car starts to vibrate pretty hard during red lights. when the car's on "DRIVE" at complete stops, it vibrates pretty hard to the point where my quad exhaust stars to rattle / shake. (which never happened before up to this past weekend). but when it's on "PARK"... nothing happens.

suggestions anyone?

You can always do the easy torque test. In drive with foot on brake and the hood open... give it some gas and you will see the motor raise an inch or two if the mounts are bad

I did that with my old mounts and it barely moved! the new mounts make the motor move alot more. Seems like to me the older mounts rubber got too hard so it wasnt absorbing the vibration as much. The new mounts rubber is much softer so the engine moves alot more but it also absorbs the vibration.. Weird huh????

the mounts are fluid filled. the newer the mounts the more flexibility.

Mine doesn't vibrate all that hard but I feel the same issue. Only at a stop light does my car vibrate. If I put it in neutral it's completely smooth. I assume this is the motor mounts too just like everyone is saying?

I just had my motor mounts replaced a week ago. I too had a lot of vibration in the wheel at a stop and while driving. I actually thought I had a bent rim, but now it's completely gone. Turns out I ripped the motor mount completely in half. I mean I shredded that sucker.

Just had the motor/transmitssion mounts replaced last week for the 1st and hopefully the last time on my 99' CLK. Made all the difference in the world, the car is runnng like it did when it was brand new. If you have the dealer do it, make sure you are ready to pay at least $600+
