Voltage Regulator?

Hello all,

I think my voltage regulator is going out, Is it possible to just change out the regulator or do I need to buy a new alternator? I've done some baseline troubleshooting and everything is pointing towards the voltage regulator. (I won't go into details).

Any inputs would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Rusty

Yes. The regulator is a normal wear part and can be replaced. This may be of assistance.

I too may be experiencing simlar issue. When stopped at red light, my interior dash lights seem to dim and car seems to want to stall out. I usually prevent this by holding the brake and giving a little bit of gas to keep the rpms up. If i try to roll windows up or down, the dash lights also dim. Do you think voltage regulator is suspect for these symptoms? Thanks in advance for your input.

In your case, it is probably just the battery...I would start there, then move on to the voltage regulator.

VIP and 928, using option number 24 of the AC diagnostics will tell you how much voltage you've got at various times. That's one way of determining if the voltage regulator is worn out. If it drops to 12.anything (while running), that's low for my car - and the ECU will do wacky things with low voltage.

A rough idle may be motor mounts. Those are normal wear items.
