Just got my new key today for my 2005 E500. Thanks to AMGPARTS18 (Dave) for his help. I went to the dealership and asked to order a new key with these part numbers:

Without Keyless go-
Remote: 211 766 36 06
Blade 203 766 50 06

I had them order those part numbers with my VIN. The main thing you need to make sure is that they order the next key number sequence (extra key) and NOT as a replacement. Otherwise you will need the dealer to program it. I think this part number should work for all models be cause I got this from AMGPARTS18 in the CLK forum.

Glad to hear it worked! How much did they charge you if you don't mind me asking?

$90 for the remote and $10 for the blade. Not too bad for Hawaii. It's the only Mercedes dealership on this Island. They pretty much got us by the balls.

That sucks about it being the only dealer, but that's not a bad price at all. Enjoy!

PS. I am going to Hawaii for the first time in February for my Dad's wedding.

SO here's my story about the key.

OK so i called around for prices on the key today, called mercedes south bay, and they were charging $200 for the key, then tried Manhattan Beach MB they quoted me $69 and some change, then went to Long Beach and they quoted me $64, but they said that in order for them to order the key they had to order the black key (which is $200) and in the request form (that they fill out) request that the chrome key be sent instead of the black one. They told me to pay the $200 in advance and IF they get the chrome key that they will credit me the difference, IF MBUSA cant make the key in the chrome for my car then they will send me the black one and its non-refundable. Are any of you coming across this? I told them I would take full responsiblity if it didnt work and gave them the part #'s and my VIN and said just order me the part with the number and VIN and they said that they cant do it that way.

The old style key costs a lot more than the new chrome one. So when you call your dealership and tell them that you need the key, they might give you a price of $200-- that is for the old one.

The newer style key-- the remote retails for 59-65 and the key blade retails for 2-4. Don't let them tell you otherwise.

In terms of ordering, just give them the part numbers listed in this thread and give them your VIN and your drivers license. Pay for the key and if when it comes, it is not the chrome key for which you gave the part number for, dispute the charge on your cc and refuse the key.

if they tell you they cannot do it, they don't know what they're talking about. Just tell them to place the order for the part numbers you requested with your VIN.

Top 10 Key Fobs

Thought you guys might be interested in this Edmunds Articles. Their list of the Top 10 Most Fabulous Key Fobs. And guess what? Our chrome clad little buddy is number 2 on the list. Second only to the keys of my next car - Bentley GT.

Anyone want to buy a replacement shell for this new key fob?

For when/if your new chrome key fob gets scratched or cracked? Insides are easily switchable. I bought this to try to replace the shell with my old black key.

How were you able to buy just the shell?

That's a cool article, thanks for posting it. American Express did a similar one in an issue of Depatures recently (magazine for Platinum/Centurion card customers), both Benz and Bentley were featured among others. I think that the Benz key is still cooler looking than the Bentley just because it isn't the traditional key shape, and as far as I know they were the first to do that right? The Bentley key should be number 2 though.

The Bentley key is number one simply because, well, it's a Bently key.

Shell

Bought the entire key on ebay thinking I could swap the internals with my black key. That didn't work, and so the only use for the key is for the shell. It's easy to swap the internals with an existing chrome key.

I agree that key is really cool. It is funny how similar it is to the VW key, though.

Allthough I live in Singapore, I reckon I should be able to order the silver key either through the MB agent here, or an agent in the UK. The post which quotes the part numbers for the key states that you should order the next key number sequence, not a replacement key, what is meant by that??? Am I right in thinking that all I need is to quote the part number for the key and my car VIN number?

I had to order a spare key for my car the other day and I went to my local dealership (Tysinger Motors) armed with these part numbers. First off the new key was actually more expensive (they wanted $220) plus they told me "if it doesn't work that's not our problem." I wimped out at the last minute and ordered the plain old black fob

[font="Franklin Gothic Medium"]The key should work on most of the cars. I don't see why they won't. If they ask for more than $100, try another dealer. I just got mine today. FONT]
