dashboard covers?

just moved to arizona,

does anyone here use dashboard covers on their CLK?

is it really necessary?

I live in Hawaii so we have the sun as a problem too. I had a dealer tell me not to use them on any newer car. In case of an accident it could interfere with the correct operation of the dash mounted air bags. Don't know if this is BS or not but---------- food for thought.
