Duals

I love the look of the quad exhaust, and my wife and I use TWO cupholders at the same time. Dumb as it may be, that is what has stopped us from getting the new CLK! And when I ask MBUSA about it, they won't even respond.

The AMG quad exhaust is too loud for a convertible. That is the reason why it was never supplied.

For some reasons, I really doubt that's the true reason why CLK55 Conv doesn't have quad-exhaust..... Noise is the LEAST concern when buying a convertible....

I dont think Mercedes has a noise threshold for flatulence if that is what you are referring to. I can see the need for an open top and the thunder of quad exhaust to disguise the problem.

Unless you can come up with a better reason then I am sticking with the reliable sources I already have. The quad system exceeds cabin threshold for engine noise. Hard to imagine that someone would doubt something so obvious.

Arrow According to "Mercedes Enthusiast" magazine, it's because of trunk space...

The CLK55 cabriolet has a considerably smaller trunk capacity, 8.6 cubic feet versus 10.4 for the coupe. The quad exhaust requires the spare tire well to be raised up, which would have reduced the trunk capacity even further, which was considered unacceptable by Mercedes Benz...

Personally, I prefer the single muffler set-up. For one, the dual set-up doesn't make any more power, and secondly, it adds weight and complicates underbody aerodynamics...

RJC... Did you read this in a Mercedes Benz USA publication, or is that something a MB USA rep told you on the phone? The reason I ask is because I've learned that most reps from whatever manufacturer just don't know much about specific products (Surprisingly), and will more than likely guess or make something up. I'm not saying that it's not true, as I suppose that noise might have been an additional consideration, and I'm just curious about the source...

Best regards,
Matt

im willing to bet the main reason the CLK55 didnt get the same treatment as the 2005 CLK55 is because they had so many parts left over...left over cabs, left over brakes, suspension etc....and they had to get rid of them....

since coupes are introduced before cabs anyways, mb decided to give the goodies to the coupes

mb didnt give the cab the same treatment as the coupe because of money
in the end, its always because of money

edit: the idea that the cab didnt get the same treatment as the coupe because of noise thresehold is ridiculous...its a convertable...
