Shift optimized gear feature

I found this blurb on the MBUSA site, it was in reference to the W163 ML.

Shift optimized gear feature added for MY02 to allow driver to find optimized performance gear by holding lever to left or right to down/upshift to best possible gear.

Does anybody know when/if this feature became available for the W208? I was driving my brother's 208 55 the other day and thought that it had this feature, but, it didn't seem to work?!? I *thought* it was adapted to the 208/210 in 01?

I have an 01 55 and I have not had that feature work on my car so I would say that it does not have it.

I stated earlier that the shift opti feature did not work on my 01 w208 and I was misinformed. I used it last night in a race with a Lancer EVO. Yeah it worked.

did you hold the shifter to the left while on or off the gas? meaning, did you floor the pedal at the same time, or did you let it drop the gears first? my bro thinks it works in his, but, he says he simultaneously floors the pedal. if that's the case, i'm thinking it was just kicking down as a reaction of pedal movement.

I'm trying to determine if there is a problem with his car. Thanks to all for the input.

BTW, what was the outcome of the run w/ the EVO?

Beat the EVO but he didn't stay in it for long...maybe 5 blocks. I floored it and at that time it jumped from 4th to 2nd and after the run I did it again and it went from 4th to 3rd. When I just hold it left and decelerate it don't do jack. This is my first benz and I don't know all the little tricks so you tell me. So if it is supposed to do it on deceleration no the 01 w208 does not have it but if it is only supposed to do it when you floor it then yes it does have it. I dunno. You tell me.

It sounds like the 01 doesn't have it then. I'm pretty sure even when you aren't on the gas, if you hold it to the left, it will drop down to the lowest possible gear.

btw, good kill

Just to let you know. I messed with it some more and if you hold the stick left it will start down shifting like at 10mph and then at a dead stop it will go from 4 to 1. If in drive under normal accel it will shift to the best gear to go like mine went from 4 to 2. Hope this helps. It will pick the best gear to start from when you hold it left. So I believe it does work but you have to shift it up.
