Just put in a pair of K&N air filters

I just replaced my stock air filters with a pair of K&Ns. I know our ECUs are the "learning" type. Just wondering if anyone could tell me how long it takes our ecu to "learn" that it has a new filter.

i think the throttle response is already a bit quicker, but it just might be a mental thing.

any help would be appreciated.

Everything I have heard from the MB technicians and the tuning group at Kleemann points to NOT tampering with the airfilters for your car. Your car's filters are pretty good as is. The risk (oil getting into the air sensors and damaging them) versus rewards (2-3hp increase if you are lucky) is just not worth it. I would recommend getting headers and or ECU upgrade instead. Mind you that I have not heard of any stories of people damaging their air sensors because of the install, but they have. Green and K&N use oil in their filters as a method of filtering. This holds even more true for forced induction cars by the way.

As for the ECU learning, I am still trying to figure out what and how that is all about. I know that Kleemann said that my new ECU would take about 300 miles to learn the new set up. They also point out that the faster and harder you drive the car after their install the faster your car will get. Again, the technical aspects of this remain foggy to me. What I can tell you is that it's not something that just clicks in one day and you go "Oh, ya, there is the extra power they were talking about!!"
