150mph Speed Limiter - How does one remove this?

CLK63 AMG Convert

Can this be done as a DIY? Would a dealer even do this for me?

the dealer will not...you need someone who can program ecu's and they can modifiy it, I believe you cannot remove it only change it to a higher value

Because they developed it a trillion years ago in Germany on AMG cars, and they have it down.

Obvious part is some type of electronic/solenoid part, mounts in engine compartment -- and works very well. Not sure if that goes with ECU re-tuning or anything else in addition to that part....

Point is that Brabus USA has it down, have done it a gazillion times - in the USA on USA cars - and on a gazillion different AMG models over the years.

I have never known someone who was dissapointed with the mod.

It's a different deal when AMG does it in Germany, as they usually do more than a few other things as part of that Vmax de-limit, as well....

Trust the Brabus touch on this mod in the USA on a US-Spec car..

And no, I have no idea what the cost is but you can go to Brabus' website and get to a pricelist which may have the "Vmax De-restriction" listed in it - (it has been a long time since I have had Brabus work done - and I just don't remember).

Best of Luck -- and don't kill yourself or anyone else with the mod....

Because it's fun to test out your car's potential in a safe environement once in a while.

Clay J- I think your advice about Brabus sounds sensible. Noticed the first spelling error in one of your posts though..."dissapointed" (disappointed)

LOL -

Thanks for keeping me honest....

Don't have time to post these days - and the fingers aren't as trusty as they used to be for a quick slam-it-out-in-30-seconds - let alone spell check, or check for typos....

Was most likely a typo, right?

Haha, I was just seizing on the opportunity as your grammar usually very good. I make mistakes every sentence and have to correct them as my typing skills are well below-par. I'll take your word about it being a typo!

The Powerchip ECU upgrade also removes the 155 mph limit. I think it was $1490 U.S. with a 3 day turn around. Noticeable power improvement and throttle response. But whether it was a 18 hp increase, not sure, didn't do a before or after dyno test.

Seriously, where is a safe environemnet to do this? I would love to take my cars up that fast. We don't have any ovals around here that are open and the road course only allow around 120 before you break for turns.

I took my 01 CLK55K to just under 150 and I got to tell you that I probably would should have not. You need a strictly exotic sport car to enjoy this speed safely. Many cars can go that far up but if **** hits the fan few will save your butt from dissaster. Power is nothing without control...Pirelli.

In Cal. you have the 5 on route to-or-from San Francisco. There are huge straights where there can often be no other cars. My P-car (170) and my S4 (155) "may" have done just this.

On both occasions it has been in broad daylight with no other cars around. I understand that the police would chuck me in jail while a blow out would be game-over for me. However, the only life slightly at risk would be my own so I personally feel it is okay.
