Would you trade-in your W208 CLK55 for an '04-05 E46 330i/ci?

I wouldn't. 330s are for those who can't get a M3.

NO!!! I agree with the above. I'd only go E46 M3 on a trade off.

It would be a step down in my opinion. Go for the M3....

No way!! Unless you're saving or making money doing it.
The CLK55 is so much more fun, a lot of my friends had these things (E46 coupes). They're fun to drive with the manual gearbox but the engine totally DOES NOT even compare to the AMG's. The W208 feels less responsive around the bends compared to the E46 but if you point it, it will turn. Well if we are talking about the new E92 335i..... I can give you a different opinion

CLK320 to a 330ci maybe but amg? I agree only if you went M3 would I trade. Even then if I had a long commute the ride of the MB would be more comfortable. .02

The later model E46 M3 with the Competition Package is a sweet ride. Though honestly, I'd rather have a fully loaded E92 335i Coupe than the E46 M3. It finally looks good too ;-) |

I agree with holson about the new 335i. That car is an amazing car i had it up 2 125 on the test drive. It was smooth and powerful if you can afford it get it you wont be dissapointed. But i would stick with the w208 or w209 over a 330.

Yep the 335i would be the only other exception I'd make!

Try a BMW board - I bet you'd get really different opinions.. even if you were going to buy a 325xi
*It handles better man... mercs are for grandpas... they can only go fast on a straight line... watch the corners.. the corners.. the corners....*In all seriousness, I can see why you might want an M3 but not an ordinary E46. I'd rather lease the new E90/E92 328. Last edited by Holson; 02-23-2007 at 12:09 AM. |

As others have said... nooooooooooo.
If you're doing it because of financial issues, then ok, otherwise thats a step down. After getting spoiled by AMG, I don't think I could ever get anything thats not on the AMG performance level from the factory.

CLK55 C208 is a pretty dated AMG in terms of performance & handling, but it is a truly classic MB worth keeping for a long long long long time. I would not trade it for anything unless $/family issues meaning I am only allowed to keep one car. E46 has all the bimmer world's bad reputation for its weak chasis and horrible steering relatively to E36 and E90. If a performance preowned bimmer must be the way to go, then get a preowned M3 E46 but it does not save you much fuel though. If waiting is not possible, I would consider the new 335i E92 Twin Turbo which is as fast as the M3 E46 and C55 W203. Back to your original thinking about better fuel economy, you might like to consider a preowned C55 W203 or the CLK55 C209.

Trade to a six, NO. Bmw, well I owned my last one. I'll stay with Benz. If I was worried about better mileage, I'd buy an econobox like a C230. Maybe I'll be a grandpa then with a leadfoot driving AMG's. I really don't care what the BMW forum guys are saying as it's oranges and apples.
Make you own decision, you just won't sway mine. Rich |
