POLL: which suspension springs to buy..

i have been looking into suspension options for a while and have narrowed it down to springs. i doont want to change a whole lot on the car for warranty reasons.

i wanted to get a little drop on my w209 clk55 amg without needing to change all the components of the suspension. from my understanding, lorinser, brabus, renntech, kleemann, and carlsson springs lower the car without changing the shocks or sway bars.

Which one do you guys recommend?

They're all probably manufactured by the same company man. Brabus is stupid expensive and not necessarily the best. Spring are springs. Call the companies up and ask some questions.

ya your probably right. but dont they all drop the car different heights. which one would give me a good looking drop in the front. I think the front of the w209 sits way to high

Have you looked at the H&R sport springs? I have those on my car, and I love them. I think the car looks much more aggressive, and they put a much lesser dent in the pocket than any of those that you have listed. I believe all of those are overpriced. Clikc on the link in my sig to see my pics of my car with the H&R sport springs.

springs?

i am facing the same dilema on which springs to choose. i only want to drop the car about 1". The cool thing is that if we decide to go with the h&r springs and the drop is too dramatic you can raise the car up a little with the spring spacer system that mercedes uses. a one inch drop is about 25mm. i think the h&r springs drop the car about 33 to 34mm. one of the mercedes spacers is 8mm and the other is 12mm (i think there are four different sizes if i remember correctly). so the h&r springs plus the 8mm spacers would decrease the drop from 34mm to about 26mm or around one inch. i dont want to change out the end links, sway bar, etc. i am going to give this a shot and i will post some pics when i am done.

jaki i looked at your car and it is sweet but it sets way too low for me. you were able to stay with stock shocks, struts, and sway bars? no alignment issues?

I was able to stay with stock shocks, struts, and sways. Altough, I decided to change the sways for additional improvement in handling. It is not necessary to change them though.

I have a little negative camber up front, something like .7 degrees. That is completely unnoticeable. It had to be like that so that I don't rub with the aftermarket wheel and tire, but again, the car drives straight and the slight negative camber is completely unnoticeable.

I think the back looks a bit low, but I really like its agressive look. It doesn't look as low in person, as it appears in the pics. The H&R sport springs dropped the car 1.5" and 1.2", and I have no issues going over bumps (even with the front lip). In fact, the front can still go over those little barricades at the end of the parking space.

i have used h&r with some of my gti's with mixed results. they never lower the amount they say they will. with my gti's the rear was always too high. anyway becaue of the spring spacer(pads) system that mercedes uses i dont feel nervous at all. i am definitely going to order some up.

I had the Kleemann springs on my W208 KLeemann CLK55. The front sits very low but that could be because of the added supercharger weight. I dont know if it will fit your W209 but I'm selling the springs with bilstein shocks.

yes i have and it was informative. i will use the knowledge of the spring pads but stay with the h&r's because of cost. i think the euro springs are almost double the h&r's now.

How does the ride compare to stock springs? And how does it compare to the others suggested? I was debating between these and buying the euro spec springs.

just be sure you get camber kits for front and rears, after you put on the springs. i had problems with camber using h&r and eibach springs, resulting in abnormal tire wear.

BB, what springs are you going with instead of the Kleemann?

i am only going to drop the car an inch, surely i wont need camber kits....? never modded a merc so i am just going to have to take the plunge. still need a part number for the spring pads.
