Headlight Leveler Removal

Has anyone ever removed the headlight leveler from the headlight housing? I got the lens off and on the bottom of the reflector the is a cross shaped hole where the rod exits. It looks like it can be turned right or left to go back out the hole and out the back of the housing but I can't get it to move. I'm afraid I'm going to break it if I apply to much pressure. I'm trying to get it out so I can install it into the Depo black projectors. It should work fine in the projector housing. The projector interior housing looks to be about the same distance from the rear of the housing as the OEM housing. The Depo housing is a exact replica of the OEM housing minus a few a few holes on the back where the OEM Xenon wiring enters. I was wondering if anyone has done this before? Those who installed Xenon kits in the Depo projectors, did y'all use an aftermarket kit or the OEM ballasts and wiring. I don't see any reason to buy an aftermarket kit. It wouldbe a waste of money when you can use the OEM just by drilling a few holes and cutting a notch for a grommet. Any info is appreciated.
