CLK Burnout/Drift

I know, its not an AMG, but I still think you guys may enjoy this.

Its a video of "some unknown dude" who was extremely bored and had nothing better to do all night than to have fun in a "closed circuit" parking lot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGti0vfnWbQ

These tires were brand spanking new so this guy wasn't used to the new rubber. There are much better videos but this is the only one he could get online. Hopefully he can get some more (including drifting, LEGAL street racing, and burnouts).

That would be a LOT of fun with an LSD installed.

Lots, stem to stern, some of what you think and lots of what you wouldn't believe, for instance, custom built 2.47 lsd in this vid, had 3.46 in some of the others (if you saw them too). Obviously a ASR Off switch mod, My cat back exhaust and a custom intake manifold. Loads of little things.
The funniest is reinstalling the original 225 pilot sports instead of the 275 p.s.'s and seeing the ease of spinning both of them vs. only one was when stock. lol

Original 500E m119 engine, and stock trans, all mods by me , and no ecu mods.
In this vid, the car was heavier than original, with a 100 lb. sub box in trunk, warmed up in hot weather, custom intake manifold and air box version1.4, ASR off, a/c on 2.47 LSD diff. and 275's on heavy AMG s-class 18" wheels. I cheated, the tires were getting lighter while shooting the vid. and I did a warm up (see previous marks), It's harder than it looks because I had to learn to feather the throttle to keep it from hitting the limiter which would allows the tires to quit spinning and ruin the donut. If you see the straight line launch, you can hear me feathering the throttle the best.

My CLK goes roundy round too even better with the ATB differential. Just have no video evidence to prove it.

The CLK55 has a M113 engine with the factory 2.82 gear and the atb diff. carrier installed. I never have changed its ratio, but if I did it probably would not be what you were to expect. I would possibly wind up w. a 2.65 or 2.47 or even worse. I would test and calculate first.
The 500E has a M119 engine, has had an LSD carrier fitted and several different ratios tried, 2.82, 3.46, 2.65 and finally a 2.47 which shall remain until I "calculate" a different ratio is in order.
The 3.46 "felt" impressive, was a good learning experience and other than that it was a waste of time, money and hard on the car.

oh...sorry, I didn't watch the video to see what car it was.....thought you had swapped an m119 into your w208 or something. Do you think a 3.46 would be too tall for the m113 then?

If I were to do one thing to your car for you that would impress you the most other that adding severe amounts of h.p., it would be to install a 3.46 or even higher gear. However that is because most people believe their car is unbelievably fast now because of it's ability to shred tires and how hard it put's you in the seat.
When you go to the drag strip, you will break the tires loose and ruin your time, and the other guy wins. I could only hook up the 500E with drag slicks after that. And the time improvent was hardly any. But it felt impressive.
After that experience I started doing calculations. My math told me that 2.65 would be optimal for a stock 500E. I built it and threw it in. I was impressed with the results but wanted a LSD. So I pulled it back out but couldn't fit the 2.65 in so I built a 2.47 which would be better after I do h.p. mods. The next trip to the dragstrip netted me the same time, at a higher trap despite no slicks and 135 lbs. heavier weight.
The lesson here is everybody's butt dyno only registers "peak" G's. Average G's are more important. Engine builders shoot for higher averages h.p. now, not peaks. There's a little more to it, but I would use higher numbers with higher weight or smaller power. I only would tune with gears now unless the gear was way off from the factory. The Gas mileage penalty was horrible too. One way to the dragstrip was just over a 1/4 with the 2.47 gear, 3/4 tank with 3.46
