Motor Mounts and Trans Mount

Just put new motor mounts and trans mount in tonight. It took 2 of us about an hour and a half for everything. What a difference, the car feels brand new again. If anyone is experiencing rough idle or vibrations, I recommend you put new ones in. The dealer sells the motor mounts for about $100.00 a piece. I bought mine from ebay for $107.00 for both (dirt cheap). The company is FCP Grouton. They were deliverd in about 4 days. The brand on the motor mounts is BOGE. The funny thing is when we took the old ones out (they were destroyed) they were made by BOGE also (w/Mercedes part #'s on them). I'm just letting people know because some people are scared about buying items from ebay or they are afraid of getting cheaper quality parts. I was always under the impression the stock mounts were made by Corteco. Turns out that isn't the case. Oh, the trans mount I also pickup up on EBAY, but that was an original mercedes part (32.00 shipped). Good Luck To remove this ad, register today or login if you already are registered!

Anyone know the torque specs and maybe a little info on installing these. I've got a rough idea from when I did my chevy years back using a floor jack and such. I've got two new mounts like yours sitting hear that need to be installed. I would love to knock these out over this weekend if it's easy.

A Hard 70k. I bought it new back in 2001. I do alot of preventative maintenance, I love my car. I just want to make sure it lasts.

The bottom bolts are a snap, the top ones are a little tricky. We did them in my garage with no power tools and no Lift. 2 people makes the job easy.

Its interesting because mine were replaced (in my C43) when I bought it as a CPO. That was at just over 56k miles, and now I'm at 80 and I'm starting to feel a little bit of vibration at idle/stopped that I never did before. I assume this would be the mounts, but is this normal? It seems like a pretty short time interval, even w/ an m113 to get stiffening...

Mounts!!

HI AMGEEZY:

Any one side tore up worse than the other. This may be my Next project ? I've got great connections at Lord Industries, Or may build something in the way of a mount travel limiter for hi torque application , but not limit the normal vibration isolation. To Keep the N V H [ Nose-Vibration-Harness] to a minumum Watch out for those DEER Happy Motoring ___PTE___

The drivers side was tore up more than the passenger. We removed the passenger side first and thought it was real bad, until we removed the drivers side. The drivers side was tore up and looked like it pretty much leaked all the fluid. Also I can say it was about an inch shorter, looked like the top was all compressed. About those deer, I just picked it up from the body shop about 3 weeks ago, and today some Jerkoff hit the front end when it was parked. Unbelievable.

I remember a while back I was reading about a SC'd benz that had some type of straps installed to limit travel within the motor. PTE I would love to learn more about this and options to help if you know of any. My mounts are toast and they are obviously worked beyond their capabilities so I would love a stronger replacement. I've heard of people filling in the voids of the mount with hard plastic compounds yet our mounts have little to know grooves or holes to fill though.

Almost forgot, still trying to find the torque specs for the mount bolts if anyone has an idea. Can't find this info for the life of me.

So my client cancelled and I was board this morning so I hit the Microsoft paint with an idea. I'm no engineer so laugh away. I figure it may get the ball rolling on a solution for this.

I purchased the same motor mounts a few weeks ago from Ebay. Installation was not too hard, just time consuming. Much cheaper than the Dealer.

FYI, mine was the driver side also, and the motor mount was compressed due to the rubber being torn. Fluid was still in the mount due to the mount tearing from the top. Car only has 48000 miles.

Is there an easy way to eyeball the engine mounts. I am asking as a person who can not change his own oil. Thanks.

I can't do anything myself. My car feels like it rocks back and forth pretty good when sitting at idle in park.

i think the motor mounts are an inevitable replacement...mine went earlier this year...after a slight mash of the gas my engine would literally JUMP! and land like i was riding a mechanical bull ..scary sh!t...

i was also informed i'd have to replace the strut mounts, and sure enough one of em went out on me...these cars are great when theres no issues, but it's the little things that annoy the hell out of u, and they always seem to happen one after the other...never the less, i love my whip...

*ahem* from one non oil changer to another, haha...i'd say ur best bet is to find a mechanic u can trust to tend to ur maintenance needs...i've found out the "stealership" will charge u ridonkulous prices for minor issues u can have looked @ and fixed by a "mom n pop" shop, also get u the parts @ a reduced rate...moral of the story: make the dealership ur last resort...

Maybe I drive mine too hard, but my C55's left motor mount died at about 24k miles! Dealer replaced it under warranty though.

Did you use the DIY for the mounts? I see you only changed 2 but the DIY section talks about a 3rd, did you leave this one alone?

PTE and Others,

I dissasembled my motor mounts from my C43 and they are sure an odd configuration with a oil sack that allows the oil to move up or down in a dampened way through a damper hole in the mount body.

I have been looking at mine and trying to figure out how to keep the mounts fully compressed when at rest and only move upwards just slightly, say 3/16" when the motor rocks due to torque harmonics.

Any thoughts from others?

Jeff

Yeah, something like this would be great. I want to strap my engine down at this point. I just changed mine and my motor still hits. Like blackbenzz I have dents also....

Hey Newbie here....

I just purchased my first MB- '03 CLK55 AMG, and I made sure the PO took the car to our local MB dealer for a checkup....cost about $130 and they found that the motor and trans mounts were shot! Along with a few other minor things.

They also charged him $65 to replace the nuts/bolts that hold on the w/s washer bottle! They claimed that they were missing and the bottle fell down a little bit!

I'll never hit the Stealership EVER!!! How ridiculous!

They replaced both sets for free...under warranty! Total charge: $1450.00!
